Well, here's finally part 2.
The first couple of parts will be boring, I know, just to get the technical stuff out of the way and to really get the story going. Then it won't be so boring. So hang in till then

Part 2
Kartik walked outside the gate of 'Swarg', his beloved house, his heaven with his family, a place where he had intended to start a little family of his own, with Anusha, the love of his life.
He angrily kicked an earthen flower pot in frustration, causing it to break, making the rich soil and the tangle of roots spill out onto the dirty road. "Yeah, that's exactly what my life looks like right now" he addressed the plant.
"And taking your frustration out on a poor plant won't help", a familiar voice addressed him.
Kartik looked up to see Namrata and Aditya, standing there, watching him with a lot of concern and a bit of pity.
"Tum dono? Why are you guys here?"
"Well..." Adi looked at Namrata for reassurance, and she squeezed his hand encouragingly, "there's actually something we've been meaning to tell you for a long time, but just haven't found the right moment."
"And you think the right moment is now Aditya? Kick me when I'm already down? What are you here to gloat about? You already have anything and everything I've always wanted, what else is there?"
"No Kartik! You don't understand" Namrata piped up timidly, "We would never come to gloat at you."
"Then why are you two here?"
"We're... umm... Kartik, we're twins" Adi looked at Kartik uncertainly, waiting for a reaction.
For some reason, it took a very long time for Kartik's mind to process these words. Twins? Adi and I? How can we be twins? That doesn't make any sense to me! "Is this some kind of sick joke? How can we be twins?"
Namrata immediately launched into explanation, "Well, see G.R. Jaiswal is actually Gayatri maa's dad. And Tapasya mom is your mami. Tapasya mom couldn't have children, and Gayatri mom had just had twins, so she decided to give Adi to her. But there was a fight in the family, and Gayatri mom walked out on dadaji and vowed never to see him again."
"G.R. Jaiswal truly raised me as his own, but, "Adi added bitterly, "He taught me only to hate, to cheat, to win at all cost. He wanted us to fight, so that it would break our parents. I was going to destroy you Kartik, but Namrata found out at the right time and told me."
"But if both of you, and apparently everyone else has known this for such a long time, why didn't anyone tell me?"
"We tried to tell you. Remember? But Anusha wouldn't let any of us speak, so we stopped them, and we promised them that when we think the time was right we would tell you."
"And why do you think the time is right now?"
"Because Kartik, right now you need family support, and we know that you gave up that support to save Shubh's life, you gave the family a new life and a new hope then. You were there when we needed you, and now we, by which I mean all of us, want to be with you when you need us."
Kartik stood thinking for a while. He saw absolute honesty in Adi and Namrata's eyes, and suddenly a lot of things started making sense. Why Adi was so concerned about Suhana at her wedding, why he was so involved with the family and virtually doing everything he, Kartik, would be doing if he had the opportunity.
After another moment's thought, Kartik walked over to Adi and hugged him. Adi was super surprised at first, but hugged his brother back for the first time, patting his back reassuringly when he felt Kartik break down a little.
After a couple of minutes of comforting Kartik, he finally pulled away, wiping the couple of tears that had rolled down his cheeks.
"Kartik, we're here to take you home, to your family"
"No Adi, I can't go back there. They're all happy without me; I'll only cause more grief if I go back now"
Namrata shook Kartik's arm sternly, "Do you know what you're talking about? We're all so much worse off without you Kartik. Without you, our family is incomplete. Papa may not admit it, but he loves you so much, and maa, well every time papa's back is turned, she cries over you."
"But if I go back, then they'll feel bad and embarrassed, and I can stand my family's hatred towards me, but not their embarrassment."
"Well you might as well get this whole issue over now Kartik, before something really bad happens and these ties can't be mended. This is the right time to go back, when they need you and you especially need us."
After a lot of pondering, Kartik finally agreed to go back to the Dixit house.
-Chawl-
There was a sort-of organized chaos going on in the foyer of the chawl, where various boxes were stacked, some fully packed, and some with different volumes of stuff, being packed by members of the household.
Shubh, Parikshit and Gayatri were laughing at something merrily, that Neha had said, while she was embarrassed and blushing.
Namrata and Adi entered the house and they all looked up at them and smiled.
Kartik entered behind them, and for a minute there was shocked silence, before the smile was wiped from everyone's faces. Parikshit's face instantly turned hard and he glared at Adi, "What is he doing here?"
Adi and Namrata started explaining the whole situation to the family, explaining about Shubh and also about how they got the loan to start their office, and also, that Kartik had to leave his house.
The entire family listened, absolutely stunned.
-Lamba House-
Poornima and Chandani stood in their standard positions, arms crossed, evil smirks on their faces.
"Now I've successfully thrown that Kartik Dixit out of my daughter's life" Poornima exclaimed triumphantly.
"Do you think Anu will let him go that easily?"
"Well she should. He hurt her. I always knew this would happen. That beggar from the streets could never keep my Anu happy; I knew this marriage would end like this, even before they got married. But at that time Anu refused to listen to me, so I had no choice but to let her learn the hard-way"
Chandni smirked evilly, "well you didn't really help matters much sis you? You practically set up all their fights, pried them apart, or who knows how long it would take my baby to realize that she could never be with that second-class citizen"
"Of course! They had to be separated. Silly girl thought she loved him. Hmph! How could my daughter love a low-life like that? It was just an infatuation, and she'll get over him sooner than she realizes ."
Poornima and Chandini clinked their Champaign glasses, toasting their victory.
Anusha stood at the top of the stairs, unbelievably shocked at her mother's doing.
