Hello all IF members

Well now we celebrate the festival of lights, or we call it Diwali.. Diwali is going to be celebrated this year on October 28th. So we thought why not get the party already started..

What is diwali first of all ?

Diwali is perhaps the most well-known of the Indian festivals: it is celebrated throughout India, as well as in Indian communities throughout the diaspora. It usually takes place eighteen days after Dusshera. It is colloquially known as the "festival of lights", for the common practice is to light small oil lamps (called diyas) and place them around the home, in courtyards, verandahs, and gardens, as well as on roof-tops and outer walls. In urban areas, especially, candles are substituted for diyas; and among the nouveau riche, neon lights are made to substitute for candles. The celebration of the festival is invariably accompanied by the exchange of sweets and the explosion of fireworks. As with other Indian festivals, Diwali signifies many different things to people across the country. In north India, Diwali celebrates Rama's homecoming, that is his return to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana and his coronation as king; in Gujarat, the festival honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth; and in Bengal, it is associated with the goddess Kali. Everywhere, it signifies the renewal of life, and accordingly it is common to wear new clothes on the day of the festival; similarly, it heralds the approach of winter and the beginning of the sowing season.

Diwali a five day Festival :
Diwali is the best loved and most universal five-day celebration in India. Different legends are associated with its origin. On the eve of Diwali, Known as Dhana-trayodashi, Rangoli (colored Powder) is used to create colorful patterns in the entryway.
Day1:Dhan Teras, it marks the day where people do pooja od the gold and silver jwellery or watever coins they have.
Day2: Narak Chaturdashi, marks the day Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasur and freed the world from fear.
Day 3: Laxmi Pooja, the goddess of wealth is welcomed into all household.
Day 4: Padwa is the day symbolizing love and devotion between the wife and husband. Its also called the new year
Day 5: Bhau-Bheej is the day brothers take gifts and sweets to their sisters. The sisters offer prayers for the brothers' longevity and prosperity

Now lets begin with the party :

During Diwali people make rangolis in thier home or in their verendahs, burn fire crackers and lots of diyas and distribute sweets.

Happy Diwali
Have a safe and sound diwali.
Enjoy

A song for u all on te ocassion of Diwali

har kisika koi hota sahara
har dil ka koi dil hota pyara
har raat ki ek subah hoti
phoolo sa khilta jahaan
kaash aaisa hota
kaash koi na rota
kaash pass aakar
kaash koi na khota

kaash ke yu daal par phool murjhate naheen
kaash hota rang se hi saja sara jaha
ashq aur dard ke labj hote hi naheen
toot te na pyar ke khwab phir yahaan
tootne hi the agar kaash sapne hi jara kam hote
har kisika koi hota sahara
har dil ka koi dil hota pyara
har raat ki ek subah hoti
phoolo sa khilta jahaan
kaash aaisa hota
kaash koi na rota
kaash pass aakar
kaash koi na khota

apni saari manzilein kash mil jaati hamein
bhul humse na koi ek bhi hoti
kaash hota saathi zindagi bhar ke liye
chhoota na haath phir haath se kabhi
jo raha na saath toh kaash armaan bhi jara kam hote
har kisika koi hota sahara
har dil ka koi dil hota pyara
har raat ki ek subah hoti
phoolo sa khilta jahaan
kaash aaisa hota
kaash koi na rota
kaash pass aakar addthis_url = location.href; addthis_title = document.title; addthis_pub = 'lyricsmasti'; < ="http://s7.add.com/js/add_widget.php?v=12" =text/>
