was nervous about the towel dance: Asmit Kaushik

The lead guy in Sahara One's Kaisi Laagi lagan could be better remembered for his opening sequence in the show. Yes, we are talking about the towel dance like the one in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Saawariya'. And the opening was catchy and when actors these days are trying hard to get recognized, it is indeed a good start for Asmit. In a candid chat Asmit tells us more about his role…

"I play Raghav, a guy who is perfect, systematic, respectful, genuine and full of dreams. He falls in love with this girl called Pratha at first sight who is the kinds that does not believe in love. In a nutshell, the show is about the love story between Raghav and Pratha and how supernatural forces bring them together."

Well, that's not enough. We need to know more about the towel dance. He laughs and goes on reluctantly, "The producer of the show wanted me to pull it off and believed that it would come out well. When I was told about it, I felt weird; when I watched the song for the first time, I used to be one among the many guys who used to do the dancing almost everyday but when I had to do on TV where millions of people would watch me, I felt a little nervous. But later with the support of my co-actors, my confidence, I was able to carry it well. It is important for an actor to have an open mind."

But how did a law student end up on the small screen? Asmit puts it down to luck, "It was my dream to become an actor and it is like a dream come true now. I wanted to pursue something that interested me and I am happy that I landed in the right place. I had no idea about the auditions but there was this audition happening at Andheri and I informed one of my friends about it because of his interest and he in turn told me about the auditions for this show, which would be apt for me. So I just gave it a shot and got through; I felt out of the world. The name of the friend who told me about the auditions is Lucky; I must say he has been lucky for me."

What is it about the role that clicked for him? "There was a thought process that was going on about the approach to the role and my sense of responsibility to the character. I started to get into the groove of the character to get a better understanding and feel. Once you get the tune then music is easy to learn. I liked the freshness of the subject and most of all felt happy that it is not saas-bahu."

But as for any actor there are certain challenges for Asmit as well, "I am completely different from the character and that is what I find difficult to bring. I am happy-go lucky, impatient and cannot concentrate much. But I am constantly working hard on that. I believe that one can never learn acting completely and is always on the learning curve every moment. One learns from his mistakes."

He goes on and says, "I am a practical observer too and learn a lot from observation. For this role I am reading a book called "Personality Plus"; the book speaks about different personalities, which is of great help to me".

Asmit now talks about his kind of roles, "I like doing comedy and feel I can carry it well because I believe that I have a good sense of humourI like Govinda, Naseeruddin Shah and Farooq Sheikh

prefer unique subjects."

Apart from an actor Asmit is also a good singer as well as a sports fanatic. He loves cricket and football. On TV, it's reality shows and also some movies.

So does that mean he would be a part of some singing reality show? "Why not? I would readily grab the offer. Reality shows are good money and big time entertainment. All the shows including the soaps are good in their own way. It is all about exploring talents in different ways."

And with big dreams does he prefer the big screen over the small screen? "It is a dream for me to make it big in Bollywood but I am not an out and out commercial guy and I would prefer taking up unique films like the ones that Vishal Bharadwaj makes. As of now I would like to focus on what I am doing and not think about the future. TV is big money but it is more than just earning. Both TV and Bollywood are good in their own ways."
