Salaam, Salim
Like son, like father. Salim Khan, whose son Salman is known for his acts of generosity, has dashed of a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family of slain
Delhi police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and Rs 50,000 to the constable who was injured in last week's shootout with terrorists.
Salim has a deep and personal relationship with the police force because his father was a policemen who retired as the DIG of Indore.
"Those days, it was the rule of dacoits and gangsters and my father had close encounters with death while on duty. But we were lucky not to lose him," said Salim, who long ago wrote Zanjeer, the milestone film in Amitabh Bachchan's career in which he plays the angry young policeman.
Using the money he kept aside from his writings for regional papers to send to the late M C Sharma's family, Salim said, "Those that indulge in terrorism in the name of Islam cannot be Muslims.
The Quran doesn't recognise such acts. Agar jung ho toh bekusuron, baccho, budho aur auraton ko marna gunaah hai. Islam propagates spreading peace, living in harmony and forgiving people. What we witness today is the acts of cowards."
