thank you all. it is very heartening to note that so many unknown faces but known persons, connected through the modern technology, care for my loss so much. thanks again for all the wonderful messages. i am slowly trying to accept it. the first stage is denial and anger and we are going thru' that. I feel more for my dad who is 76 and who was entirely depending on my mom for all even though he is physically fit, but for his arthritis. and also for my little niece - my only brother's daughter Shruthi who is 2 and was the apple of my mom's eyes. they shared such a close bond and i wish she had lived for 4 more years so shruthi can remember her paatti forever. now her memories of her paatti will fade away in a year or so.
i will be back in USA this sunday. it is a irreplaceable loss and it is going to take a long time to get over it.
thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. it is such a wonderful feeling when good people care for you so much.

Sorry swash, I just saw this thread. Please accept my sincere condolences and wish you and your family the strength and courage to face your loss. I would like to share with you a favourite poem of mine, a beautiful and evocative one.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die

Swash, I am glad you liked it. It is a lovely poem and always makes me feel comforted. I came across it when I was preparing a eulogy for a dear friend and it was a lucky, wonderful find.
