Sudipto Chattopadhyay Tuesday, November 29, 2005 19:04 ISTTraditional Hindu marriages climax with the saath pheras. But daily soaps make their protagonists go round in circles to keep the couch potatoes hooked! Just like you never know when Elizabeth Taylor will marry next, you cannot predict when Prerna ('Kasauti Zindagi Kay') or Kashish ('Kahin to Hoga') or Nandini ('Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi') will be forced to leave their beaus and marry somebody else only to leave the new husband to marry the original mate. Viewers have virtually lost count of the marriages in daily soaps. Star Plus' 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' tops this list. It started with Tulsi's marriage to Mihir followed by Tulsi reaching the altar a second time, till Mihir reappeared. The second generation has a virtual merry-go-round of marriages. Gomzi marries Ganga, leaves her to marry Damini, Ganga marries Gomzi's cousin Saahil, Ansh marries Nandini who marries Karan after Ansh's death. In 'Kasauti Zindagi Kay', Anurag marries Komolika, leaves her to marry Prerna, and abandons her again only to remarry Prerna. Later Prerna marries Mr. Bajaj and dumps him to marry Anurag yet again. In 'Piya Ka Ghar', Avinash marries Rimjhim, leaves her to marry Malini only to realise his mistake and return back to Rimjhim. Rani, as yet, is happily married in Sahara One's 'Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki' and Shyamlee in 'Hare Kkanch Ki Choodiyan' has married just twice making her a novice compared to the distraught damsels of 'K' soaps. |
