They pondered much and cried more

They mused upon this strange case,
And swore they'd change the pigtail's place,

What powers these pigtails do possess,
That a prince should love her, no less,
And determine to make her his princess.
But first she must lose them.
The prince one day, thought very hard,
All day he remained on guard.

Of how to rid them from his dear,
And promptly went searching for some shears,
In an effort to lose them.
