After a breakthrough performance in her maiden film Nache Mayuri, Sudha Chandran became an instant rage. Despite getting acclaim, she remained absent from the silver screen.
All that is about to change as the actress will now be seen in director Priyadarshan's rib-tickling comedy Malamal Weekly. "I'm making a comeback of sorts with this film," she smiles. In Malamal Weekly, Sudha essays the role of a dominating thakurain. "It's a comedy of errors. Something that Priyan is synonymous with. I'm really fortunate to have bagged a key role in his film alongside stalwarts like Om Puri, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav." The film also stars Ritiesh Deshmukh and Reema Sen in the lead roles. The story of the film centers around a lottery ticket that gets misplaced. "It's funny how the entire gang goes looking for that ticket. They make sure that the ticket doesn't reach me as with more money I could make their lives even more difficult," informs Chandran.
She says the first time she received a call from Priyan's office, she thought that her friend was pulling a fast one on her but eventually she realized that it was all real. We ask Sudha if she will abandon television for films now and she says, "I'm what I am because of television. My shows and the characters that I've played in them have given me the respect and the love. But films are my first love. I started my career with films. Obviously, I'd want to do more roles like the one I played in Malamal Weekly. But, the character and the set-up should appeal to me."Malamal Weekly is slated to release early next month.
