It is difficult to pick up top 10 scores of a mastero like ARR, neverthless here they are IMHO:

1. Thiruda Thiruda: Putham Puthu, sorry for this Tamil song in a Hindi list but this deserves to be here.

2. Love birds: Malargale, another Tamil song, oops, but this is too good based on raag Hamir.

3. Dil se: jiya jale, while this was sung by aging Lata ji I think song could have had even more devastating effect in Kavita ji's voice. A complicated song on bhairavi.

4. Taal: kariye na wada kisi se, very soulful based on kalyan raag.

5. Rut aa gayi re, very melodious based on intense raag puria dhaneshree

6. Zubieda: mehndi hai rachne wali, wow...! is the only word for this song.

7. Saathiya: chalka chalka re kalsi ka pani , again what a masterpiece...!

8. Swades: ye jo des hai tera, doesn't matter how many times you hear this, always brings tears.

9. Kisna: hum hai is pal yaha, the only song done by ARR in Kisna otherwise composed by Ismail Darbar.

10. The legend of Bhagat Singh: mitane se nahi mitate/des mere : on raag des: this is so surprising that most of the patriotic songs are based on raag des lead by unsurmountable vande mataram.

which are your top 10 of ARR ?

yes I try to listen to most of his Tamil songs, here I havent listened to the nila kaigirathu, munbe wa is too good. I am surprised you like mahive, it is a beautiful song but based on a carnatic raag that s why it sound s slightly South Indian composition, but look at RDB there is no string of SI composition at all thats why I say ARR is some one who is always evolving.

Yes please listen to this paticular songs.....there are two version, one sung by harini and the other sung by Hariharan........
Mahive, Hai na and even Hawa Sun Hawa have south indian touch in it ......I wish to see Saregamapa contestants singing these songs........

Sorry to say this... But ARR is one of the most overrated music directors... He gets a Filmfare whever he gets nominated... Saathiya, Guru, and so many when he did not deserve an award..

He himself sings so much besura...

Some people are plain lucky...

There are lot of songs of ARR which i like and the songs provided by both Indra & niruba contain many of my top favourites. So i'm going to list some of those which are missing top ARR songs(it is again my own choice for reasons known or unknown to me and not in any particular order).

1. Chale chaiyya chaiyya from Dil se
My room mate used to wake the whole neighbourhood early morning by playing this song full blast on two big boom boxes connected to a ripped car stereo.

2. Nahi saamne along with Kariye na from Taal

3. Oruvan oruvan mudalali from Muthu

4. Pudhu vellai mazhai from Roja (Yeh haseen wadiya in Hindi)

5. Yunhi chala chal from Swades

6. Ishwar Allah from 1947 earth

7. Uyire(Tu hi re) from Bombay

8. Thee Thee Thithikum Thee from Thiruda Thiruda

9. Many songs of Rangeela

10. Margazhi poove from May Madham(Amazing song)

PS: After putting the list i again feel i somehow left out many more deserving songs, hehe this is the effect of quality output from a genius like ARR.

chaiyya chaiyya: If it had been any other composer he would use audio sample for train sound or choo choo effect but ARR has recreated whole thing by using percussion instrument have you noticed this?
Reminds of a song from kitab :dhanno ki aankho me by R D Burman and he used only tabla and flanger over guitar to produce train effect.
