There are stunning similarities between HR & Anu Malik.

Both of them use surprisingly similar rhythms & modes,
At times it is very difficult to say whose composition is this.(among them)
, if you don't believe me go to any site and listen to their songs one after another, it gets mixed up in brain.
Like AM, HR keeps changing his style of music and therfore doesn't leave any signature mark on songs( in plain terms it means using certain instruments in such a way that you always realise on listening to a song, who is the composer, like AR Rehman, JL do.
None of them have been trained in classical music.
HR picks up flot from Latin & Spanish music, just like AM (sorry inspiration!)
Both of them have strange fascination for sequencer rhythm & playing bass guitar effect on keyboards.
Both avoid Lataji & Ashaji.
Both of tham have been vastly successful commercially and know how to change with time.
There is one strong difference, while AM has struggled a lot in 80s HR always had a smooth sail. Despite being unsuccesful initially,
he kept getting movies.
My opinion only..... please don't lash out.

one more difference HR is a great singer, Anu's singing is best forgotten - compare "aashiq banaya" to "ek garam chai ki pyali ho"

Anu malik's music is 60% times copy of some foreign music album.
but in case of HR I havent found that. Although HR accepted
in last show that he is inspired by LP but we do not get such clue...

More than being a musician he is a complete buisenessman.
HR is very well known to Zee TV, he has produced many serials & financed them,
he is one of the least trained music composers but knows the pulse of people, he often has been accused of nicking one of Nadeem-Shravan's music. But he denies these charges.
Ican't say if his music is like Anu Malik, I think later is better any time.

I also agree almost all of anu malik's music has been copied from english songs...however this is not present in any of Himeshji's music...

Himesh is a great singer...i never even knew it was anu malik singing ek garam chai....

Hi,

You've made some interesting comments. No lashing out, just some thoughts... 😊 I agree with some of your observations:

I was thinking along the same lines, that Anu Malik is one of the few music directors from the 80s and 90s that have managed to stay successful commerically in the 2000s… and sometimes when I hear a new song I think that it must be composed by HR, and I'm surprised to find Anu Malik as the MD… (NO ENTRY for ex)

One big difference that I find between Anu Malik and HR is that while the former has given us some classic, unforgettable music, HR is yet to establish that kind of track record. For example, Anu Malik has made albums like Baazigar, Akele hum akele tum, Border, Refugee, Asoka, LOC, Fiza, to name a few of his best… I think the only albums of HR that could compare with these are Tere Naam, or possibly Humraaz.

Having said that, HR is much younger, and has a long career ahead of him… while Anu Malik has been around for 2 decades, so he would naturally have an advantage.

Just my opinion... No offence to any HR fans

Dear Jem
Let me add that Anu Malik has sung a number of songs and has been quite successful as private album producer & singer, his album dhuan dhuan was a hit. That way HR is a newborn in industry. He has a long way to go and give hits in tndem.
He will come in the league of great only if he is able to do some Roja, DDLJ, Khamoshi.
