We have seen various section of people and one among them is people who are over protective and possessive.. Especially certain parents so over protective about their children.. They dont allow them to go alone anywhere and accompany them to all the places they go.. I am not only talking about parents of kids who are teenagers but also those who are in their mid 20's.. If the parents cant accompany, they dont let the child also independent to explore things..

Do you think its fair on the child's part for not getting the proper explore?? Even the careers of various kids have been spoiled because of this possessiveness.. Is it really fair?? What should the child be doing to get the freedom he/she requires??

Anu, it all depends on what kind of "exploration" that 20 something yr. old has in mind😉 There are areas where they wouldn't want the parents breathing down their necks while they are oh so busy "exploring"😛
Okay, in a goofy mood right now. Will be back with something "serious" later.😆

hey this is a really interesting topic.. for me cause i am a parent and i have to say that kids are not growing up in the same environment that i did. today the easy access to drugs, sex, guns is all making parents more fearful and wondering what is my child up to. be that child in his teens, twenties or even 8 or 9... thats what has me totally spooked, but that being said i dont think i'm an over protective parent if i feel that i need to know where my kid is at all times. who their friends are ( and yup i'd want to know my kids friends parents too)..whats the big deal if i set a curfew and that i expect it to be met..that my child come home at a decent hour..i dont think that is over possessiveness (personally) now as for the choices kids make now adays well i have to say some really do boggle my mind.. 😕😆 sometimes seeing kids wearing their jeans half way down their butt really has me sick....so really what i'm getting at is that trust your child no doubt give them the freedom to choose their path, but watch them like a hawk, cause sometimes when you give your kids too much rope they end up hanging themselves..(i mean that figuratively by the way😉)
thanks for such a post
regards
just a concerned parent😃

well i believe in being over protective in one way...cuz if our parents are not over protective then we could be influenced by bad people...
Nature vs. Nurture...i believe Nurture takes a big part because we are by whom we are influenced, by our surroundings...i am 18 and my parents are still hella protective about me...i still cant go out alone after 10 at night...even the same thing with my bro..he is 21 but still have boundaries...
exlporing the world doesnt mean you let your kids go out and exlpore bad things...my parents let me go out but they let me go out with people whom they trust...at this age they still tell me no for things because I am a girl...they are not that protective about my bro because he is a guy...he can still go out at night if he wants to...to be honest my parents were really stricts about us when we were 15-17...

there is a fine line between protective and overprotective and it depends on which side of the colored glasses you are on and so goes the "good" in it
