Congrats on being MOTW. I always enjoy reading your meaningful posts. Some questions from me:

1) Who are your favourite MDs and singers of today?
2) Do you think the music of this decade is better or worse compared to the music of the 90s?
3) For each of the following MDs name the song you think is their best composition:
- Vishal-Shekhar
- Sajid-Wajid
- Himesh Reshammiya
- Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
- Pritam
- Aadesh Shrivastav
- Ismail Darbar
- Jatin-Lalit
- Nadeem-Shravan
- AR Rahman
4) For each of the following singers name the song you think they sung best:
- Sonu Nigam
- Shaan
- Shankar Mahadevan
- Kay Kay
- Udit Narayan
- Kumar Sanu
- Abhijeet
- Alka Yagnik
- Kavita Krishnamurthy
- Shreya Ghoshal
- Sunidhi Chauhan
5) Why do you watch SRGMP?
6) Which season of SRGMP till date do you think was the best and why?
7) If you were put in charge of the SRGMP show what changes would you bring?

Thanks for the compliments shehzadi.

My fav MDs now a days is ofcourse ARR and SEL. I loved work of Jatin Lalit and I really regret their departure, they gave some meaningful music but couldn't sort out the financial differences, Jatin being senior claimed some 60% and lalit's wife was not happy (as reported in Filmfare) so brothers had to separate to keep their wives happy acc to news and even build a partition in the house..! Some how I do like work of Pritam as well and I listen to him (trying to forget they are out n out copy)

Singers: Udit, Shreya, Kavita K , Abhijeet, Alka, Shankar, KK, Shaan (but not always) I do have some collection of Lataji, Asha, M Rafi, Kishore da and in classical Amir Khan, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan , Pt Bhimsen Joshi, they are treasure trove.

Music of this decade is better than 90s for few reasons: 90s was dominated by Anu Malik, Bappi Lahiri, Anand Milind, large output came from them, but the quality was generally inferior, there was large amount of plagiarism specially Anand Milind nearlly lived on the songs of Ilayaraja while Anu Malik lifted NFAK's work right and left, AM took credit of ARR work (Gentleman in Hindi) as well. Bappi Da liberally lifted songs of Bangladesh and Bangla rock bands in this period. After RD Burman left, there was a big void, not that he was composing large number of songs but his once in a while compositons like 1942 a love story, Drohi, Ijazzat were liked and kept the quality alive.
This void was slowly to be filled by work of Jatin Lalit and SEL, while JL were going great guns in 90s, split started appearing in late 90s and it is here they took to some plagiarism as well. SEL appeared in the scene and only rose and rose: courtsey many factors: like JL departed, there was a void for romantic genre then SEL work was good and appreciated by masses and classes. ARR considerably reduced his output and AM and Bappi Lahiri largely disappeared, so this place was positively taken up by SEL.

After 1999, generally awareness for plagiarism increased and sites like itowfs came in picture while they are not entirely correct they are certainly a useful watchdog, Also all sort of films were made out of box and genre giving ample scope of composing out of genre like Dil Chahta Hai (rock genre), Taare Zameen Par, AKS (some good work by Anu Malik) numerous priod films like Bhagat singh, Zubeida, here nearly always ARR was roped in and he gave fantastic output. Pritam came and brought loads of plagiarism but his music is a big hit, be it Emraan Hashmi or any B grade actor, whether movies click or not his music clicks. I think over all we are doing better than 90s. Also monopoly of composers and singers has ended and both SEL and ARR have given break to numerous new talents including those from Pakistan like singer of Mitwa, RFAK.
I think they are adding fresh breath of air to Indian Classical.

VS: Tashan some songs like dil hara.

SEL some if their good work has got ignored like dil jo bhi kahey, marigold, Dillagi great tracks.

ARR: loads very difficult to put on a tray.

Jati Lalit: Khamoshi, hum tum,

AS: chalte chalte

rest in next.

SRGM used to be agreat programme till 2000, I really liked the year when we had Mohd Vakil. If I am made incharge

Sincere and honest auditions in all parts of India including South India, classical and training is appreciated there. I will also include some NRI and Pakistani singers but in a specific ratio. Also once a pool of 32 singers is made which would include nearly 8 (5 Pakistani and 3 NRI singers), the rounds will be really tough, semiclassical and light music based and eliminations would be purely on basis of merit and mahagurus will have a free hand, gurus wont be even allowed to comment on these decisions. This will carry on till end mentors function would be largely limited to back stage and in imparting training.

A good singer as host like Sonu (great personality as well) or Sunidhi or KK: it is not important to have a singer as host but it brings seriousness to the show.

Hi Indradhanush..

I notice that you use a lot of desi singing/music related jargon that i don't understand and I don't think many other laymen/women around here get either. which makes me wonder if

- your posts are only directed to a select few "elites" on the forum and not people like me who don't know what all those words mean😊

or

- you want laywoman like me to be impressed with your music knowledge

or

-you're just a musical connoisseur and those words come naturally to you

First of all I applaud you for honest questions Mrs Ackles (a unique ID pls explain the idea behind).

Actually there is a certain desire to impress beautiful women like you 😳 😆but seems I failed.

Well it is my favourite pass time to identify raaga in Hindi songs and for this I go to miscellaneous sites to take help and check my self, these terms do come naturally, OK I'll put a control on them now.

BTW I was myself in a rock band and loved work of Deep Purple Wow what a keyboarding) , Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Joe Strani and many others, western music is always a welcome change and both SEL and ARR use ample amount of nuances from both forms hence I find their music stimulating to modern age.

Now I realise nearly ARR's all work on light music in 90s was based on raagas and at times quite un usual, once while giving interview he said , lets put it this way I compose and people try to find raaga in them, that explains why some of his songs start in Bhimpalasi and end in Dhaani (kehta hai mera ye dil from Jeans)

Mr Id, i m also big fan of Deep purples, lez zappelin, Dire straits. I love every bit of music style of Led zappeling and how can i forget their song Kashmir. I would love to share about their music more. I hope u can enlighten more about them. I myself used to play bass guitar with small band. However i dont think i have even 10% of music knowledge that u have.
