The music of Abhishek Bachchan's much-awaited Drona was launched with a lot of fan fare at Mumbai's Leela Kempenski Hotel on Saturday night. While the Big B and his bahu Aishwarya weren't there, mummy Jaya Bachchan more than made up for their absence as she took over the proceedings of the evening. While everyone else spoke in English, Jaya insisted that being an Hindi film it was only fair that she spoke in Hindi. She even hinted at the Raj Thackray controversy saying that given the Bachchan family's roots they were more comfortable with Hindi. And if any of the locals had a problem with that, they would simply have to bear with her.
But just when everyone was getting curious about whether the hero of the film will also skip the event Jaya revealed that Abhishek would indeed not be able to make it as he was busy shooting for Dostana. The evening started with an emotional speech by Jaya who talked about the family's long association with the Behl family. Years back Jaya had acted in late Ramesh Behl's Jawani Diwani. Drona is directed by Ramesh Behl's son, Goldie. Given that almost the entire Behl family was involved in the making of Drona - Right from producer Shrishti Arya to art director Tania Behl to the DOP Sameer Arya, it was no surprise that family bonding was at its peak throughout the evening
In the Hindi speech department Jaya had company in Priyanka Chopra who said she agreed with whatever the Jayaji said. Chopra looked pretty in a black dress after having lost all that weight for her bikini sequence in Dostana. Priyanka is now a pro at action adventure films after Don, Krrish and Love Story 2050.
Harry Baweja was seen chatting away with Priyanka's father all throughout the evening. Looks like the Priyanka-Baweja family equation is only getting stronger, despite the debacle of Love Story 2050. A few weeks back there were reports that Harman and Priyanka had called it quits but the pictures tell a different story.
Just minutes before the official music launch, Abhishek Bachchan made a smashing entry from backstage. After a long time Bachchan Jr was in his element. Thanking the media almost a zillion times for all the support to the Bahchcan family, Abhishek was at his humourous best once he took over the microphone.
He said Drona was the fulfillment of a childhood dream to make "a really big film with swords". Like a motor mouth Bachchan went on and on, managing to keep the audience entertained. At one point, when the lights went off, he joked, "Won't work, even if you switch them off I wont stop
From mimicking the director to taking jibes at the host, he did it all - maybe he was enjoying his moment of glory, as he didn't have to share the limelight with the other superstars of his family. And perhaps Big B and Ash's absence was also a calculated move at letting Abhishek hog all the lomelight.
Abhishek mentioned about the two women who were like pillars of strengths during the making of the movie. But he said only one of them was present as he referred to Goldie's wife Sonali Bendre
Drona has music by Dhruv Ghanevar and the movie is co-produced by Eros Pictures. It's a big movie for Abhishek Bachchan who hasn't had a solo release since Guru. And at a time when several new faces have made a splash in Bollywood, Drona will pretty much decide the fate of Abhishek's film career. Drona opens in cinemas next month..
