Gayatri states that she is aborting to save the child a lifetime of pain and fear. Somewhat true, but this view reflects her opinion about the family. I don't know if she knew what she was getting into when she married Shankar, but there is no doubt that she learned of it shortly thereafter. If this made her uncomfortable and weary of starting a family, she should have used BIRTH CONTROL. I think once she discovered she was pregnant, her fears became even stronger and more immediate. She wants nothing to do with that side of Shankar's life.
This is telling -- she aborted because she knew Shankar would not and could not leave his family. Whatever your view is of abortion, it is not her decision alone. While her body is hers to do what she wants, in pregnancy, the husband has equal rights to the child and knowledge of it. I DO HOPE Shankar finds out. Why? Because Gayatri needs to face up to what she feels about the family and Shankar. Does she really love Shankar? Because I think she only loves certain things, but not the whole person. How else could she go behind his back after telling everyone she was pregnant and abort?
From where I stand, I think Gayatri is a torn, confused person. She feels she can't live a full and complete life because she is Shankar's wife.
Aside from abortion, she does have another thing at her disposal---DIVORCE ! I recommend she look into it. đ đ
