In the old times women had to work hard in the kitchen and in and around house as the families wiere bigger considering joint familes and no machines or maids to take cre of your daily chores. may be temple was far from their house with very minimal chance of transportation. So once the woman gives birth to child she has to stay in bed and not work or touch food things just for the sake of rest and getting infections from others which can be passed to an infant
This was my grandma's explanation I was always the curious one and asked my grandma when she asked me not to touch my aunt when she had a baby the tradition was made so that women get rest as women always had to work in the house while men go out and earn The whole idea was to lessen their work and give them more rest. Because after the delivery of the baby woman's body needs rest. it was like for 20 days you can not touch any body the reason here is the infection as the hospitals and houses were not steralized like modern times and germs can pass thru mother to the baby.Infact women used to stay for a week or 10 days after normal deliver and in cesarean or othe compication womens stay was 15-20 days. I remember in my case i was hospitalized saturday morning and gave birth to my son saturday evening and Monday morning around 11 am I was in my own bed at home. So in total I spent like little over 2 days of hospital stay. That is how times have changed.
Traditions were not made to consider woman inferion after they give birth to a child. or demening a woman in any case. it was purly based for the convinience of woman right after pregnancy.
In Sp it has taken wrong meaning and also in today's age it is not wise to follow certain traditions as we have now sterilized places with less dirt better medicines and saloni is not a laborer who had to do so much of a physical work.
Sooner she gets back to her routine the sooner she will recover.
so such tradtion is impractical in modern era.

hi ramas i dont know the hindu tradition but i am muslim and i have never heard this in islam either. I dont think there is such thing as a barren women being a curse to an expecting mother those stupid laws were passed in small villages where older women made them up to keep expecting mother and barren seperate. We all probably heard them from our grandmother who heard from someone now a days many women are educated and should know better

you are misunderstanding again. Tradition was made to give woman a rest and nothing else.
They were not meant to demean any one. It is taken wrong way by ppl and made it to hurt.
and I was only talking about going to rasoi ghar and pooja ghar.
lali is talking about hiding a child from saloni. It is totally a diffrent thing.

My grandmother also gave me a similar explanation when we were discussing this issue. Most of the women at that time did not go to a hospital but a 'dai-ma' came to the house and delivered the baby.
This so called 'tradition' was made so that the woman could have complete rest and give her body a chance to recover from the nine months of pregnancy and childbirth.
However, I am more upset at the way Zee Channel is allowing it to be portrayed. I hope they do not stretch this Lali Masi's version of the tradition to the point that people get the wrong idea. I thought among all channels Zee was one who believed in taking a stand which is socially responsible. Would love to see Zee rising to the occasion and nipping this part of the track in the bud.

Also in india ppl eat 3 times a day and fresh food as well. So if woman had to cook whole day when will she spend time with her new born as this is the precious time for mother-baby bonding.
mother's- infant's bonding begins as soon as the baby is born.
So why give a good cause bad name nad prove it something bad.

I agree with you zee proved to take a stand again social perils. Then why allow ppl like lali in teh house and make a mockery of a issue or tradtion which is made to help mother and new born bonding and well being of mother.

i only found when my mum had my sister and found it strange and my mum told that it is done because for 16 days the mother is supposed to rest completely and and then from 17-40 days they cant go to the mandir even if it is in the house but i am not sure why
