Pic: B L Soni Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is recovering well at the Lilavati Hospital, where he is being treated after complaining of abdominal pain yesterday. According to doctors attending on him, Bachchan was found to be suffering from inflammation of the intestines. He was transferred to Lilavati from the Escorts Hospital in Delhi late last night. ''He is absolutely fine. In fact, Amitabhji slept well throughout the night and made no complaints about his condition,'' a doctor said. Sanjay Dutt was among the many visitors who came to Lilavati Hospital through the night last night to inquire about the condition of Amitabh Bachchan who is being treated there for an intestinal ailment During a check-up at about 7:45 am today, Bachchan said he was feeling weak, but there was nothing about the pain he had suffered initially, the doctor said. Bachchan was also given a light breakfast. Dr Narendra Trivedi, vice-president, Lilavati Hospital, said Bachchan is in a super deluxe room on the 11th floor, where doctors are attending on his constantly. His wife Jaya and other family members are at his bedside. Dr Tiwari, one of the doctors attending on Amitabh, leaves the hospital The area has been cordoned off by private security guards. Explaining Bachchan's ailment, a doctor said: ''These are indications of a stress attack. This happens due to the amount of work that Bachchan is putting in. The amount of work he is doing is way beyond what a person his age can take.'' A close friend of the Bachchans said, ''For the last nine months, he is shooting non-stop. It sounds unbelievable but he has not taken a day off. Whenever he is off shooting, there are ads, voice overs, etc.'' Priyanka Chopra and Riteish Deshmukh arrive at Lilavati, looking worried Amitabh's son Abhishek told friends visiting the hospital that his dad was fine now, but needed rest. ''Thanks for calling. Of course I will call if I need. Thanks,'' he told another over the phone. Among those who visited the hospital through the night were Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Aadesh Srivastava and Rohan Sippy.

I can just imagine Mamoo... Well its said that he worked non stop for 9 months and they say at his age he is not supposed to do so...

i agree with am_apple......now he is in that age where he suppose rest....anyways hope he gets well soon...

Thanks Niki. I am getting better and I plan to go on a long vacation.

I cannot understand why AB Sr has to work so hard... he has ample money to last for 3 generations.. 😕

A routine checkup for a stomach infection was blown out of all proportion by a section of the media.

Amitabh Bachchan isn't the country's biggest star for nothing. Hence, a visit to a Delhi hospital en route to Mumbai were enough to spiral speculations about his health. "I'm fine and there's absolutely no cause for alarm. On Sunday, I was in Lucknow for a function on the occasion of my father (late poet Harivanshrai Bachchan)'s birthday. On the way back to Mumbai, I had this minor ailment. That's all. No need to raise a hue and cry about it when there are so many important national issues that require urgent attention," Bachchan says.

Although the news of his hospitalisation on Monday morning turned out to be much ado about hardly anything, the Big B's wellwishers feel he needs to look after himself. They feel he's going way beyond the schedules prescribed for someone his age.

"He really needs to slow down," says his son Abhishek. "But Pa just doesn't listen."

Last week, he returned from New York after shooting for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, and went straight into Ravi Chopra's Babul sets. On Monday morning, he felt queasy.

Meanwhile, his family and close friends have surrounded him at Mumbai's Leelavati hospital, where he is currently being treated. Manoj Desi, an exhibitor, claims that Bachchan's health is stable, and that he hopes he will be discharged this evening.
