Dulhann through its ups and downs

Dulhaan IS (still using presence tense, tempted to use WAS, but couldn't) my favorite tv show…the only show I watch. It has been through a lot of ups and downs and the trend in TRPs clearly delineates that. But no matter how disappointed I have been, I never hated the show! I don't know why, even after mind numbingly boring crap, still deep down in my heart dulhann reigns!

We have been through Surelli crap, been through Sinduraa's mindless ploys of killing Saagat with a truck or poison, trapping unpar Vidya..the same routine over and over again..even a reincarnation, a change of a lifetime didn't bring much change in Dulhann's storyline..Our HAWT hero as dumb as ever and his wife fighting against the greatest evil in TV history..her endless struggle and misery continues…she is yet to gain utmost respect and trust of her husband..

Having said that, why still dulhann IS my favorite show?

The first thing is SV/AD/SD chemistry. We have talked so much about it. Each fan knows instantly what I mean. Isn't that magic? Everyone is just spell bound by it. There is NO escape! And boy, we love to be trapped in the magic forever..right people?

The second thing is..the dulhann's struggle. Her undeniable, unshakable determination to fight for what is right. She has been through the worst life can deal but never gave up..played the cards to the best of her ability. We all have battles to win in our lives, be it good grades, achieve success in professional career and even in family life. Vidya or Divya gives us hope and courage and inspiration to get up each day and fight our own battle. I know I am stretching too far. But I believe this! We as humans generally support the underdogs in any game, why? WE see US in them. Vidya's/Divya's struggle in a way reciprocates ours. We want her to win..want her to win badly..We lend our brains to her, rethink her strategy to tackle Sindura because its our fight too..Am I making sense?

Thirdly, the storyline is unique. Yes, the creatives are dragging it to the extreme and repeating a lot but still its different! Cinderella story! Its always the favorite story of all kids of all generations! So definitely dulhann is popular!

I am sure there are tons of flaws but still can't live without at least reading the update! Disappointed? Sure! But loyal? Definitely, true to dulhann always!

Isha,

Loved what you have written. Yes we do support the underdog all the time becoz it does reflect our own struggles in life whatever they might be. And even though there are other serials ( Kasam se, 7 Phere, etc) where we do have a lone female fighting for justice and truth against all odds even against her own family, husband etc. BMTD has been unique in many ways. The unpar small town girl, the pagal Sagar, the most evil older sis, the dedication of the unpar dulhan to her family and husband, the recovery of Sagar as the sauve, perfectionist urbanite, his falling in love with his unpar wife who educates herself to become worthy of him, the pregnancy bit, his missing her and bringing her back, their tragic death while fighting the evil Sin, their reincarnation and now the present story..(crappy as it might be right now) has a strangely endearing quality to it... it touches your heart and makes you actually bleed for them, makes you cry with them and be esctatic when they are together. And this is primariy becoz of the absolutely mindblowing chemistry that Sharad and Divz share on and off screen, They make you totally believe in them. That is the main attraction of BMTD, that is what makes us such crazy fans of it. To the extent that we vent our frustrations when it gets boring and draggin but forget them the minute even a single cute scene b/w SD is shown.
Guys ITS ALL ABOUT SHARAD AND DIVYANKA. THEY ARE BMTD AND THEY MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Dulhann is like an on-again, off-again boyfriend for me.😆

Sometimes, I love it. Sometimes, I hate it. But I keep coming back to it. For me, it used to be SV's innocence. And then the novelty that came with the new track. Now, I really don't find much that attracts me about this show except for SD. And sadly, even they are not enough to make me watch this show everyday😕

Dulhann has been through a lot of trying times, but for some reason, the SV from the beginning (before Sagar's recovery) made up for it. There was so much innocence and unconditional love in them that made me keep coming back. So yes, when Surili was here, I hated it. When Sagar was sent to the mental asylum, I was so frustrated. But now, beyond frustration and hate, I am also disappointed for expecting better.

Sorry for the lack of optimism😒

Nishi, these kinds of posts are what our forum needs at the moment, I think 😳 We can all be positive but it's hard to be when times dont seem to be going in our favour!
You're right, we've been thru a lot, but we're still faithful to Dulhann... before, I used to sometimes feel that Sindoora was such a good vamp that watching the show partly cos of her was oky. But now, I just solely watch it for SD, and SD only... I like some other characters, but SD is who I watch the show for. If you take out Sindoora then what a perfect show 😃 muahahaha, just kidding. :P
It's like the times of good periods are really good, but short-lived... and the not-so-good periods of the show are really quite bad and long-term, unfortunately. 😛 But I think if we all can go thru everything that we've gone through, then we can still make it through this. What will keep me running though.. is always the SV scenes from the past, the AD scenes from now... I think i'd go mad if we didnt have them 😕 gaaaahh!
I think it upsets me more is that why does everything in this show have to be downplayed? Why can we not see the villain losing sometime? And when she does, it's so short-lived? The acting potential of the actors... physically how they are made to look in the show... those things are what frustrate me more. Cos Dulhann could be the best show on Zee and maintain itself for a very long time if the creatives just take these things into consideration. When 99% of the viewers watch the show for the 2 lead protagonists, then why not make us happy by keeping them happy in the show..... hmmmmm. That's one of the main things I am concerned about.
But yes Nishi, we are true to Dulhann always! I hope all of us will be! 😳

you guys are such optimists...looking at the silver lining ..not the clouds. well good on you.
i am bored senseless too BUT i think that the dulhann team is actually preparing us for some major fireworks (& movement). i think the slowness and stupidness of the past days are deliberately timed and needed to pull the major punches that are in works. once the excitement starts, we will hardly remember today's frustration.
and i think this all is coming soon.

Such a wonderful post Nishi! Thank you for that 😳
I'm like you. I have never hated this show, I can't seem to get myself to hate it because there is that endearing quality which still makes it different from the other shows (Maybe SD? Who knows). I remember how Dulhan slowly climbed itself up the TRP chart. It wasn't a hit instantly at all. There were times when the show used to be at No.18 or even out of the chart but we still kept hope. I always knew that this show had potential and it all came out whenever SV's love story reached its peak. It was No.1 exactly at the times I expected it to be. As of now, it needs A LOT of work. Does anyone think that the direction has changed considerably?? I don't know why but it feels like the current director doesn't treat scenes with the same sensitivity as before. Its all about revenge for them but they don't bother on looking at AD's relationship as much. I can't explain it but as I said before SV had more importance than AD have ever been given. Its a shame that the 500 night was inserted admist all the other crap episodes.
Anyway, we can ALWAYS hope. I don't think its a terrible show at all. Its just really BORING and SLOW! I think we need a reason to be excited and for me that can only happen if AD's relationship shows any progress.
God Bless 😛

Nishi, thanks you so much for making this post!

I agree with all that you said. Dulhann have been trough a lot.Sometimes the show have been boring and just waste of time, but the funny thing is that we never stop watching it. Dulhann is a part ofour lifes now. If we don't watch the show one day, we think about the show the whole time (I do...). I'm on holiday for 2 months. My dad told me that I don't need to take my laptop with me, but I still did it... only to watch this show.

One of my friends, she doesn't understand hindi. She slept over one time in our apartment. It was Autumnholiday I think.. but it was a monday. It was 10 pm and I said to her that I'm goig to watch Dulhann. (She likes Indian culture a lot) She said OK and came with me to the living room. We sat there with my mom and eated popcorn. She asked me whats the name of this show, and I said the name is Banoo... Dulhann. She asked me what Dulhann means and I told her "Bride". We watched the show and she was staring at the screen. She didn't say a word at all. The next day she went home. After some time she slept over again and this time it was Friday. It was 8 pm and she asked me when is Dulhann. I said 10 pm and just looked at her 'cause she just asked me about Dulhann. We watchd the show and she said she really like this show! And she had only seen 2 episodes!!!! After that day se started to watch the show, every time she came to sleep over we watched the show.

The storyline is unique. Sometimes they drag the storyline very much but I never stop watching it. I remember we talked about facial hair, Amar hadn't shaved for a long time. It was when Divya was at the hospital. I remember all of us said he have to shave and stuff. I said that I'm not going to watch the show until Amar shaves. The next day he still hadn't done it but I watched the show... I just have to watch the show!
