| BEING JANET | |
| firstperson MUGDHA GODSE ON FASHION | |
| I am playing a supermodel called Janet in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion. In a way, I'm playing myself in the film; but of course there are also a lot of different things that happen to my character. I had a great time working with Madhur Sir. A lot of people ask me if I gave any tips to Madhur Sir since I come from the modelling world. But he has done so much research, there was no need for me to give him any ideas. In fact, there were times when I was shocked and would wonder — 'How did Madhur Sir come to know about these things? They are not known to a many people outside the industry.' I was acting for the very first time so I was very nervous but everything went off smoothly. Of course, my experience on the ramp has also helped. Moreover, I am acting alongside Priyanka (Chopra) and Kangana (Ranaut); and fortunately, they are really good co-actors; because, as everyone knows, acting is reacting. We had a gala time on the sets. We had to enact all kinds of different scenes in the film. I can't believe the lines I am saying when the camera starts rolling, Words like 'jhandoo' and 'bangroo' do not form a part of my everyday vocabulary; but here I am using them all so naturally. Madhur Sir's guidance about getting the feel of the character really helping me out here. The character that I portray is quite bold. Janet is required to be tough and use rough language. She has been in the fashion industry for 4-5 years and hence understands the intricacies and behind-the-scenes functioning of the industry quite well. If someone tries to act fresh with her, she gives it back. She goes to the extent of asking men to come up with new lines if they act too smart with her. My character is casual and streetsmart. But the moment I land on the ramp, I'm all sophisticated and feminine — that's the beauty of the character. The vibes I have been getting about the film are definitely positive. I am told by Madhur Sir that I have exceeded his expectations. I guess, I can feel comfortable and quite confident with appreciation coming straight from my director. I have enjoyed my first film and am looking forward to more. I have just signed a deal with Percept Pictures; and very soon you will know which new film have I signed." |
