Lucknow, November 27: Thousands queued up last month for the Indian Idol auditions, the talent hunt launched by one of the television channels. Newsline takes a sneak peek at the Lucknow audition results, which will be aired tomorrow night, and finds that those who have made it to the next round are a mixed bag.VEENU KUMAR: Having won many music awards in the State, she is a known face in the singing circuit here. Singing since the age of three, she accompanies her father's troupe.
RENUKA DESHPANDE: This 16-year-old from Jabalpur missed her Class XI exams to take part in the auditions. Immensely confident, she has been training in classical music for five years now.
MOHD SHOAIB: This Class X student hails from a family of poets. He applied for the auditions after a lot of persuasion from his family. A Mohd Rafi fan, his greatest moment was when he sang one of his idol's songs before the judges.
RITU PATHAK: As a struggling artiste, this 18-year-old from Gopalganj in Madhya Pradesh has done her Visharad in music. She plays the harmonium and likes to dance. For the judges, she was a surprise package.
REHAN KHAN: An 18-year-old Class X student, he sells T-shirts on the streets to fund his classical music training. His grit and perseverance brought tears to the eyes of the judges. These are just a few of those who have cleared the first hurdle. But for every success story, there is a heartbreak. Take Sharik, a delivery boy who came straight to the auditions after delivering his last pizza for the day. He broke down on being rejected, crying bitterly in compere Aman Verma's arms. ''The judges have suggested I should train under a guru for a year before auditioning next time. They don't understand there is no way I can do that. Abba is no longer alive and I have the burden of running the family. My mother and three sisters are all depending on me. Allah mian mere saath hamesha yahi kartey hain,'' he is seen sobbing on camera. The judges have their own travails too. ''It's hard to face rejection,'' admits Sonu, confessing that his mother scolded him after she saw a tearful mother protesting against the judges' decision. ''I tell her its not easy for me either, but mera kaam hi kasai ka hai, main kya karoon,'' he admits.
