hi guys... i'm back with my latest update on everyone's favourite celebrity reality show: nach baliye! i'm sorry but i have to do this update in installments... or i'll never get done... please bear with me... thank you all!
So, moving on... the latest NB show was a mixed bag to be honest... some performances were dissapointing and some evoked surprise reactions... but on the whole I would say it was lukewarm with a dash of glitter courtesy, Rajeshwari, Parmeet and Supriya...!
A special word on Parmeet: this man is a veritable God of energy and powerhouse performances! He performed the best with a stomach infection and outshone all the others! He should have received a standing ovation! It was fantastic!
Sangita and Shabbir:
Sangita performed on deedar de which in my opinion was about as lukewarm as the entire show! On the one hand, there was this marvellous costume and OK choreography, and on the other, some very un-innovative poses and postures: in total, a slightly so-so show! The beauty of the costume was marred by its hard-to-miss similarities with the one worn by VJ anusha in lut gaye... nevertheless the sum total of Sangita and the costume was striking.
Now, keeping my future profession in mind, I cannot pass up an opportunity to comment on this dress which was a very pretty red dress probably designed with those gypsy dancers in mind! A nice floaty material, sprinkled generously with gold sequins and chamkis, teamed with some flirtatious high slits gave birth to something in the arabian belly dancer tradition: only the veil was missing. But that ada was right there to compliment the costume. Nice earrings, I see Sangita has reverted to her big voluminous earrings... but i'm fine with it this time! Another addition was the cannot-miss red streaking in her hair. I must say, this takes costume-hair co-ordination to a new level altogether! But the effect was nice! The dance was nice, with some sensual moves thrown in... i think 'item numbers' is her genre, her coquettish looks are very cute... the moves were captivating at times.
Shabbir on the other hand, reminded me unmistakeably of Rupert Grint's present avatar with the floppy hair, jacket, shoes and jeans... there's no denying it! That's most definitely the RUPERT look! An OK dance, he attempted some gymnastics there and ended up looking like half baked lassagna... where's my cheese? Ok... he did an alright job, nothing special... well, i guess his logic is that he must try his best not to take attention away from the competing jodis...! Maybe so...
THE JODIS:
Archana-Parmeet:
I'm waiting to do the Parmeet bit, so with your permission, i'm going to breeze through the Archana section with the motto : 'brevity is the best policy!'. Ok... it wasn't very bad, just bad... I don't know where our super vivacious Archana disappeared to, the one that came out on stage looked tired and drained. Ok, i give them that margin, that's maaf now, but what about the costume and the song??? The choice of song was soooooo wrong for Archana... considering, song naa jane kahaan se aayi hai is a sridevi product, it most definitely wouldn't go with Archana's image... no, not at all. Forgive me, sridevi fans, but Sridevi brings a totally immature, childlike, silly, comic quality to her songs... i just feel that way... and so does archana, but to a limited extent. The bugbear here is Archana's very inappropriate-for-THIS-type-of-chulbula-song expressions... i'm sorry, but that just didn't gel with the song... the choreography leaves a lot to be desired, is all i can say!
And what's with the totally devoid-of-colour costume and mismatched hairbands?? Oh... archana... i so miss the real bubbling-with-energy you! Come back... come back!
Now my favourite part of this week's NB final... Parmeet Sethi!!! He stole every heart and vote with his superhuman effort and sincere dedication towards this cause and show! And for that Mr.Parmeet Archana Puran Singh Sethi, i give you more than full marks! I'm sure every single viewer relished his overgrown schoolboy Pappu-pass-ho-gaya act! Speaking for myself, I lapped it up greedily! Oh, the masterpiece of masterpieces!!! I totally enjoyed the get up... the very short tie, the black framed glasses, the funny collar and the sincerity there... everything fell into place without a glitch, and for some time, all eyes froze on this wondrous act, as Parmeet ji and his troupe of little boys danced their way into the NB hall of fame! He was supposed to have failed 10 times, but in spite of that, the look seemed 'nerdy' to me... anyway, the steps seemed like a parody of the original song and other famous steps. It was excellent and unbelievable in superlatives!!!
Fantastic beats, unbelievable spirit and the MOST AWESOME chreography EVER! This one truly ROCKED the show! Lovely ending too... the steps were soooooooooooo cute! I loved them... it really took the cake, icing and candles!!! If Parmeet can do this with a stomach infection, i have only one word: 'WOW!!!!'
TOTAL: 45/60
Varun-Rajeshwari:
Apu and shilpa were there too… Shilpa in her favourite colour pink with striped capris… my word, this lady probably has a 'pink' warehouse… Apu looked cute in his hawaiian style shirt and Amit was there as well… dashing in green and jeans! I liked Malaika's dress too… it was cute! Show stopper!
Varun-Rajeshwari:
Rajeshwari performed before Varun and she did a rocking job of it. The judges were very impressed especially choreography Mughal-ess Saroj Khan. Dressed in a beautiful red period costume with ample jewellery, she looked every inch a great dancer which she is anyway! But before I continue, let me comment on something I've never commented properly on before – the lighting!! My god… what lovely lights… quite like lace made of light… it reminded me of those paper cut snowflakes we made in primary school. Nice costume, attention was given to detail and the end result was great! But more than anything, it was Raji's dance that was truly captivating and breath taking! I don't really know much about dances, but I'm guessing it was kathak, and it was gorgeous… there was a bit of jab pyaar kiya to darna kya thrown in… it was magical. But for some reason, I had this nagging feeling, that she was being very stiff just before the performance, but once the lights came on, and the music began to play, that feeling absolutely evaporated. I have never seen anyone combine expressions, pure dances and gestures, with talent so well on THIS show! As far as pure, unadulterated dance goes, she is the clear winner. I LOVED those eyebrow movements and those subtly sensuous 'come hither' looks… only a trained, refined dancer could do THAT! It shows!!! Perfect 10!
