Actresses outside India wearing Western..

There are lots of Indian events held outside of India, and thats fine. But don't you guys think sometimes Actresses such as Ash, Priaynka, Deepika etc should wear Indian clothes to represant their culture.

I dont understand at Cannes Ash wore a Western dress. But in my opinion she should of woe something the represented her culture. Same goes for Priayaka at the LS 2050 premire. And all he awared shows that are held outside of India.

Remember when Laagan was nominated at the Oscars, Ashtosh Gowarikar wore a tradiatiol dhoti kurta. I was really proud and suprised!

I am not saying these actresses should stop wearing western dresses but outside India they should represent their culture and not try to act like what they are not. And plus i think Indian girls look so much better in Indian clother vs Western.

i agreee..coz some hollywood celebs are like reallly into traditional clothes and soitz nice to represent tht...! You have to be proud of what u are...!

Yeah, that is true that they definitely could try at least sometimes. But the thing is that the one time Ash tried to do it at Cannes, and her color choice was not good so now Loreal arranges for her stuff. M. Night Shyamalan's wife wears saris at premieres and award shows, and she looked beautiful so it can be pulled off.

I know what you are trying to say. But I have seen Deepika wear salwar kameezes or saris to some award shows. She is better than most in that department in Bollywood. She can suit dresses well though too.

Aish had to wear gowns when attending Cannes because of L'Oreal. They decide what their representatives are to wear for the occasion.

Bollywood's association with international designers has recently increased due to the fact that the market is opening up to them in India. It benefits the designers because they get free publicity in a new market, whilst the actress gets to be associated with the brand, which often results in free clothes. Obviously, this doesn't apply to all actresses....alot of them seem to choose a gown over a sari because it gives them a more modern international look.

It's a shame that in such a huge industry, Indian designers are not give enough publicity on the red carpet, so they don't get much international exposure......and those that do, seem to copy western designs instead of creating their own.

i get what you are all trying to say ... but i like the fact that actresses wear western clothes at these events ... i feel its great to see them taking riska and experimenting rather that always sticking to the safe saree ... kind of sends the message that we are fashion divas, global citizens and comfortable enough in our own skin to carry off anything 😊


plus from a purely female perspective - when will a girl get wear such gorgeous gowns if not at these events... you definitely don't wear such stuff for a night out or formal occassions or even for awards in india (maybe now awards are turning into black-tie events but earlier ppl used to walk in wearing ripped jeans! ! )
