Who unfortunately fell a little too far from the family tree
Kumar Gaurav
The son of famous yesteryears' hero Rajendra Kumar a.k.a Jubilee Kumar made his debut with 'Love Story' which was produced by his father. His father who held the unique track record of most of his movies celebrating jubilees, also acted in the movie. Probably some of his father's good luck spilled over and the movie ended up as a big hit. It was assumed that he will make it big because he was a decent actor with complete chocolate boy looks. But all that was an illusion as it was all downhill for him from there. Even today his debut movie is credited as the sole hit in his short lived career. He also produced and acted in 'Naam' but it was brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt who walked away with all the accolades. But his father never gave up hope. Maybe he thought his son would somehow manage to emulate his success. He made a last ditch attempt to save sonny's sinking career with a film called 'Phool' which had Madhuri Dixit acting opposite him. After that movie flopped too, the actor chose to leave Bollywood and stopped dreaming.
But after a few years he made another attempt and acted in 'Kaante', where he gave a pretty decent performance. But that was not enough to revive his career. Rumour has it the old Gaurav is currently on medicines and taking injections to look a bit younger. He's going for skin treatments too as he wishes to act again. It's high time he realised that acting ain't his cup of tea!
Rajeev Goswami
Manoj Kumar or Hare Krishna Goswami was a huge star. But the guy's son Rajeev Goswami could come nowhere near him. Now this guy made his debut opposite Meenakshi Sheshadri in 'Painter Babu' which was produced by his dad. The only problem was the same old ghisa pita plot of the movie. The abysmal story was about a painter who's unable to marry his ladylove as he gets framed in a murder case and is sentenced to prison. When he comes out of jail, he finds out that his girlfriend had got married to someone else. The loser then wiles away his time by drinking and crying and commits suicide finally.Gosh..no wonder the film went unnoticed! Guess he should blame the poor direction of his father who launched him with such a horrendous movie. Maybe the creativity of Mr Kumar had gone for a nap when he planned this dismal film.
Kunal Goswami
The fate of Mr Manoj Kumar's second son Kunal Goswami was almost similar. He made his debut as a hero with the movie 'Kalakaar' which till date is his only claim to fame. The song 'Neele neele ambar par' became quite popular. But actually only the music of the film was a hit. The film wasn't too successful and heroine Sridevi stole the show. Kunal was hardly noticed. His father tried to re launch him with another pathetic movie years later but that too ended up as a failed attempt. After that the only choice left for him was to sit at home along with his brother.
Suniel Anand
He is the son of the evergreen old man Dev Anand and hence he dared to act in a film directed by his creatively kinky dad. The movie was weirdly named 'Anand Hi Anand' which was a huge flop. In the unbelievable climax of the film, Suneil is chased by drunken elephants. Gawd...the audiences couldn't help but laugh off the film.Suniel who failed miserably and ended up as a laughing stock, tried to help himself after he realised that his father was more interested in acting himself rather than doing something for him. He wrote, directed, produced and acted in a film called 'Master' which was based on martial arts. He tried to sell the tickets of the movie on a very large scale. But later it came to light that only 43 people dared to watch the movie! Of course, after that Suneil gave up all his unrealistic dreams and preferred to sit idle at home. As of now, Dev Sahab is the only overactive actor in the house!
Sanjana Kapoor
The pretty daughter of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kapoor tried to make it in Bollywood with Ketan Mehta's 'Hero Hiralal'. In fact she was the first girl from the Kapoor family who turned heroine. That made her the first to break the family's age old tradition of 'no acting for the ladies.' But the role of a film star falling in love with a Hyderabadi auto-driver did nothing for her career. She chose to quit Bollywood, maybe because she realised that it wasn't her calling. Currently she is helping her father and is actively involved with Prithivi Theatres.
Karan Kapoor
He is the son of Shashi Kapoor who got some stardom as the male face of Bombay Dyeing. His blonde good looks gave him a lot of ads. After that he decided to make his Bollywood debut but the movie with which he chose to do so was a different kind of period film called 'Sultanant'.He played Dharmendra's son in a supporting role and got completely overshadowed, thanks to the presence of Dharmendra and his son Sunny. He also played an important part in another entertaining film called 'Loha' which starred Dharmendra again! Karan used to speak Hindi with a foreign accent and was wooden in his acting. This, of course didn't help his case in any way. He soon gave up on his dreams and decided to settle down to a peaceful family life.
Kunal Kapoor
The career of the other son of Shashi Kapoor was appalling too. He started out by acting in his father's films. He made his debut with an English-language film called 'Siddhartha' where he played the son of the title character played by his father. The film was appreciated and so was his role. He then appeared in Shyam Benegal's critically acclaimed film 'Junoon' which also featured his father, mother and both his siblings. He then managed to get a film as a leading hero titled 'Ahista Ahista' opposite Padmini Kolhapure which turned out to be a damp squib at the box office. After a long time he once again featured alongside his father in the much acclaimed Vijeta, followed by 'Utsav', 'Trikaal' and 'Maashuka'. But none of these films and his father's helped him to match up to the stardom of his dad. He finally realised that quitting Bollywood was the best idea for him.
