Bollywood's ace director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gone ahead and signed newcomer Harman Baweja for his much anticipated venture 'Chenab Gandhi', starring Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan in the main lead.
Gossip mills were rife with speculation suggesting Bhansali was keen on casting his favourite blue-eyed boy Ranbir Kapoor for the role, but the latter apparently did not consider Bhansali's offer due to date constraints.
'Chenab Gandhi' is a period film that will be produced by Bhansali himself and will see Harman portraying a pivotal role opposite none other than the Big B. The movie will be directed by Bhansali's assistant Vibhu Puri. According to reports, Harman is under a media embargo not to discuss the project with anyone.
Bhansali zeroed in on Harman after catching the promos of the actor's much anticipated film 'Love Story 2050', as Ranbir had already refused Sanjay's offer by then. It is believed that Bhansali is very impressed with Harman and his great screen presence.
Bhansali has gone on record saying Ranbir Kapoor was never approached for this role in the first place. Perhaps, he didn't want others to know that a newcomer like Ranbir had turned his offer down.
After bagging this role, Harman has become one of the much in-demand newcomers to have hit Bollywood and possibly the only one who does not have a single film release under his belt yet is the chosen favourite of some of the biggest and finest filmmakers of the country, including Ashutosh Gowariker and Anees Bazmee.
The competition between the two new comers seems to be really hotting up prior to their big debuts. But looks like Harman Baweja has marched way ahead of the competition, going by the number of big banner movies he has in his hands.
