What do you think about the music of Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic?
Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are talented musicians. Ehsaan is a fabulous guitarist. I have tremendous respect for them. I think it says something about a filmmaker when he uses the trio in a film. We have songs of various genres in this album. My favourite song is Nihaal Ho Gayi and also Lazy Lamhe.
Tell us something about the character you play in the film.
I play Ranveer Talwar in the film. He is an efficient businessman. He's had a very lonely childhood. It's probably the most fascinating character I have played. He is so successful in life but extremely disciplined and organized at the same time. He has got this weird butler who looks after his stuff. He's lot a hot girlfriend as well but he doesn't take her too seriously. He is never comfortable in dealing with the four orphan kids or his girlfriend. But he is extremely professional when it comes to business. He is a real hero with his goodness and flaws.
What enticed you to take up the project?
Kunal Kohli and I have worked together in Hum Tum. I was abroad shooting for Race in Durban and he sent me this sms about the plot in four lines. It said, it's a story about this guy who has to deal with four orphans and Rani Mukherji comes down as an angel and helps to sort out things. I thought it's in the genre of films like Mary Poppins or Sound of Music and there is something modern and different about it. Even Mr India, Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke are in the same league. But at the same time, I was confident that Kunal would make something different.
You look different again the the film…
For this character we thought of a slightly serious look with hair swept back, clean-shaven, well manicured look. Once or twice you get to see him in casuals.
How was it working with Kunal Kohli?
I was quite a pain in the neck during Hum Tum. I think I was very impatient, who wanted to do things fast and was keen on going to the pubs after pack up. Kunal's working style I thought was quite annoying even though we had flashes of getting along by the end of the film. This time around it's been quite amazing that we had made such a good film without fighting. Kunal wanted a mature performance from me.
Working with Rani for the third time…
Rani is a fantastic actor. Aditya Chopra says that we share an interesting chemistry on screen. She is real, down to earth girl. I think the more I have matured and the calmer. My relationship with her has improved. I must have been a an annoying person a few years ago when we were doing Hum Tum.
What was it like working with the four kids?
Normally, children are tough to work with but these kids were a really good. It worked well for everyone with lot of energy on the sets having them around.
And Ameesha Patel…
Ameesha is very sweet because she adjusted her dates for me to get a little holiday that I was looking at. She is playing the oomph factor, Ranvir Talwar sexy girlfriend who unfortunately is more obsessed with Louie Vinton bags than her boyfriend. We had only about five or six days of work together which was good.
