Hey i have a type in red flags also .. like xie wei ..he is red flag for all but was down bad for jian xuening..similarly xie zheng..he was ruthless to all but down bad for fan changyu..they can burn the world but must bow to their love..that is my type in redflags

Are they red flag?? Idk Xie Wei but Xie Zheng is not a red flag. He's soft only for her and that's not a red flag I'd say

Luan Nian isn't hot and cold he just won't bend his rules and has a foul mouth. Nothing nice comes out of him. If he sees 9, it's 9. He is not the type to go on the other side and verify if others see it as 6. A character calls him a stubborn donkey and the name suits him the best!

In a workplace scenario , this kind of attitude works fine ..he has a good team & they deliver . Like there were ppl who override his authority , it happens in the first scene itself , his hr manager appoints someone he disapproved....now the problem starts when he falls for his subordinate ..he cant suddenly let go of the personality he has build up in years , in an authority position he has been giving orders , he wont be subservient to her in personal life too but there is a catch which is shown nicely here

she needed to learn & survive in a ruthless work environment so she likes his attitude there, she also appreciates him, likes to work under him ..but on a personal level she needed equal footing & rightly so ....so she fought for it & got it ..eventually after the miscommunication & fights .. She demanded respect , she earned it from him..

Theres another angle also ..when they fought i thot he is just acting like his father ..there comes a scene where this realization comes to him 🤣 "I became like the person who I hated the most .his father" ..n thats his turning point ..

Parents (here the person in authority ) generally think that whatever they do is in the best interest of their children so they subconsciously try to control all their decisions ..when they grow up they absorb the same personality as their parents..

So yeah..red flags r fine with me as long as they reach there ..some of them have the natural quality some learn it but eventually they arrive at the same place..

That's quite different from the novel. According to the novel, he comes from a healthy family background. It's just that he's been quite different from other kids since childhood.

As you mentioned, his authoritative and controlling nature is very much needed when he's in the office. He's a great leader. He's also a great teacher, if not for his foul mouth. He's the kind of teacher who would make his students feel dumb for not knowing something. But SZT was comfortable with it and took it as, "Oh, he's making me think on my own instead of spoon-feeding me, which is actually quite nice because I'll remember this for a long time." Now, that's her choice/compromise, whatever...

And regarding their relationship, he set the rules: this would be purely sexual and nothing beyond that. He knew SZT had feelings for him, and he enjoyed bossing her around in the relationship. But then he got pissed off when SZT actually abided by the rules he had set. When he realized that he wasn't a part of her private life and that she had her own goals to achieve and friends to hang out with.... he couldn't accept it.

According to him, he was supposed to stand on mighty ground and look down on people. But here he was, SZT's dirty secret, and that cracked him. Rather than swallowing that hard pill, he started belittling her.

I feel he's a red flag for messing with her, giving her attention, making her feel special, all while maintaining the 'this is purely sexual' status when he knew she was starting to fall for him. He's not only older but also quite a player. He could have drawn the line, but he didn't.

He didn't like being in a relationship because it came with restrictions, possessiveness, and a lot of questions. Fine, but that should have worked both ways. Instead, to make himself feel better, he put her down again and again. He made her feel inferior and small several times. In his heart, he admired her, "Wow, what a student I brought up" but the next moment he turned and through his actions and words, he hurt her.

She broke his equilibrium, and he didn't have the manual to handle that. Even when they got back together and she said she'd come clean with her parents, his next words were, "So, also tell them what kind of relationship you were in." basically a woman without a proper status for six long years.

He can never really change. His actions and words probably won't change either. But I believe this story will continue even after I turn the last page, because Luan Nian is stubborn. If he wants something, he wants it. So as long as he wants her and is obsessed with her, he'll do things his way or eventually get down to her way.

After spending her entire youth with him she also picked up a habit or two from him to counter him. He's a red flag, yes, but they kind of suit each other, so I would still rate this story highly.

Hhhmm that's quite a perspective ..I loved reading it ..

I haven't read the novel so ill judge him only by what I've seen of him ..

The last lines is basically the gist ..she also wanted him , she went weak everytime they were together or he came up with an apology .. but its not like she had zero self respect or ego ..like i said she carved her way out ..like 2 people adjusting to each other's moods & nature , she did it well without letting him be the boss ..at work he was , not at home ..

But aise bhi .. yes he proposed a private , kind of an open relationship but he didnt follow it himself did he ? It was only in the initial stages ...later , He admitted to his friends in switz that he has a girlfriend , he cleared his status with his childhood friend .. He introduced her to his friends as his girlfriend & about marriage ques also he didnt deny rightaway , it was a big leap & an acknowledgement ..he didnt wanna take her to his parents yet bec he needed more time..he didnt have to do any of this but then..why would he go smug everytime ? Coz he wasnt sure if she wanted the same thing..he asked for priority, like why is she spending new years with friends why did she wanna go bk to her apartment , he didnt give her space but he demanded space for himself, and so on ..which i agree is a red flag but everytime , both acted on their own , it was more of a communication gap & ego problem which they worked out later .. there were always ques like "does he see me this way , does he not trust me ,if this is what he thinks of me its better i let go" , and it was the problem with both , not 1 of them..

Abt the open relationship, she was adamant abt keeping them secret bec of workplace dynamics ..she wanted to earn the promotions & position herself , . If the truth was out , everyone would say that she slept her way up ..it would be really bad for both of them bec both cared a lot abt their career ..and they did care a lot abt each other , else they would've broken up in the first yr itself ..

If he didnt appreciate her at work , he wouldnt go to lengths to retain her in the company .. his friends always gave the right advice n he heard them , thats what kept him afloat ..haan , he had to learn to compliment lol

The fact that she genuinely wanted him made the story work. She knew exactly what she was getting into and chose it anyway, and that's where she held some power in their relationship. Giving a guy a taste of his own medicine is one thing, but seeing a woman fully aware of her choices, without getting foolishly or deeply lost in her feelings, while still maintaining a rational stance - that's what made SZT special. I really, REALLY liked her for that.

Luan Nian was used to the feeling of being in control, of having someone yearn for him and constantly look to him for validation. Somewhere beneath all that, I think he wanted a woman like that around him. But SZT refused to play that role. She stood on equal ground with him and treated their relationship exactly as he proposed: if it was sexual, then it was only sexual.

Luan Nian wasn't always the first person on her mind when things went wrong. She assessed the situation and reached out to people who could actually help her rather than automatically turning to someone who would lecture her for two hours, make her feel worse about her situation, and then help her out of it. From his perspective, his value to her was suddenly no more than that of a bed partner, the exact position he had expected her to abide by.

Even if Luan Nian is subconsciously doing things he normally wouldn't, the moment he's confronted, he'd probably put on that brave act and pretend he's still completely in control. That's why someone like SZT is exactly what he deserves. Break his arrogance and make him confront things he would otherwise avoid.

The drama also seems to be making a few minor changes that subtly give SZT some faults of her own. So by the end, the audience may think both of them made mistakes, both realized them, both compromised, and both learned how to live with each other. It becomes more about two imperfect adults figuring out a relationship.

The novel, though, takes a slightly different stance. It's more about bringing an arrogant man down a few notches and making him realize that falling in love and prioritizing the person you love doesn't make a man weak, it can actually make him stronger. The drama leans more toward portraying a mature adult relationship: people make mistakes, relationships get messy, you learn from them, compromise, and move forward. Each narration is good in its own perspective, I'd say!

@Swathi In short, yes. For context, this is when she wanted to switch jobs. Like one of the core members working in their company decided to leave and take some interns/office staff with him. And SZT was one of his choices because she's diligent in her work. What Luan Nian meant was Alex wants to take you away because he needs someone who works like a dog for his newly established company in its initial stages, so don't be a fool and leave the good position you have in your current company and jump to something unstable. But nothing good comes out of his mouth as usual........
