Australia vs England, Women's T20 World Cup final: Rain chances

The weather gods appear to be smiling on this occasion. According to Accuweather, the temperature in London on Sunday will hover around 28 degrees Celsius, with winds coming from the west-northwest at around 13 kilometres per hour.

The skies are expected to remain clear throughout the afternoon, with just a two per cent chance of any rain interruption. Fans filling Lord's on Sunday should be able to enjoy all 40 overs.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage as we look ahead to an evening that is sure to live long in the memory of all involved.

The last few weeks have been quite a ride. In the 10th edition of the tournament, we've had record crowds and the highest number of participating teams (12). Ireland, Scotland, and Netherlands have all had their moments, so have Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Indies. Yes the fielding standards haven't been great, powerhitting remains a work in progress, and there remains a big disparity between the teams at the top and those below them. But a lot of the matches have been closely fought with different players making a mark. In the end, however, it was always coming down to these two teams.

Experience has led the way for Australia, who have won six on the bounce in this tournament. Ellyse Perry, the senior-most member of the squad, has shouldered the responsibility with the bat, averaging 46.25, while the spin duo of Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham have shared 17 wickets between them. Ash Gardner appears to be peaking at just the right time, and Phoebe Litchfield, after playing only three games because of injury, feels due for a defining knock.

After missing out in the inaugural edition, the Australian dynasty has grown long and fast, winning the title in six of the next eight editions. In the process, they've beaten England in all three finals that they've met, establishing an inescapable hold over the women's game. They had a rare blip in 2024, when they missed out on making it to the final, but things are back on track again under new captain Sophie Molineux who was appointed earlier this year, taking over from Alyssa Healy.

The hosts, though, have history on their side. They have never lost a World Cup final on home soil, winning all four they have hosted - three in the ODI World Cup and one in the T20 World Cup. Can they keep that record intact and make it five from five tonight?

Standing in Australia's way are hosts England, who will be eager to erase the memories of the 2022 World Cup final - their most recent ICC final - where Australia bullied them with the bat before sealing a 71-run victory in Christchurch. Nat Sciver-Brunt produced one of the finest knocks ever seen in a losing cause in a World Cup final, smashing an unbeaten 148 off 121 balls with 15 fours and a six, but it wasn't enough.
