Was his brother dead or alive?

Sorry, I didn't notice this query before. However, as this thread came up again & finally I noticed your query, here is the short summary -

The plot of Ziddi Dil Maane Na went off the rails once Shaleen's the infamous double-role storyline entered the picture.

Was Karan's Brother Dead or Alive?

Param Shergill was ALIVE. Everyone in the academy believed he had died a martyr on a mission. However, it was later revealed that Param had actually turned traitor, survived, and was secretly leading/collaborating with the terrorist organization PRT.

Plot Summary: From Bhabhi's Entry to the Show's Finale

1. Bhabhi (Barkha) & Niece (Baby) Enter

Karan's sister-in-law Barkha and his niece Baby arrived at the Parakram Academy. Their arrival added a brief phase of family drama and lighthearted moments, as Monami slowly won over the family while grieving the missing/supposedly dead Param alongside them.

2. The Abduction & The Double-Role (Balli)

The terrorist gang, led by Dhanu, targeted Karan. They kidnapped him and brought in a rowdy, street-smart lookalike named Balli (also played by Shaleen Malhotra) to pose as Special Agent Karan inside the academy.

• Balli tried to fool Monami, Sanju, Faizi, and Col. Batra, but his unrefined behavior raised suspicions.
• Monami eventually realized he wasn't her Karan.
• To make matters worse, Balli got framed, leading everyone to believe Karan had died in a cliffside/bomb blast incident, leaving Monami heartbroken.

3. Karan's Secret Return & The Brother Twist

Surprise, surprise: Karan was not dead. He had survived in secret to uncover the true mastermind behind the PRT terrorist network. While tracking them down, he discovered the ultimate betrayal: his own beloved brother, Param, was the ringleader.

Karan returned to the academy in disguise/hiding to expose Param. Meanwhile, Balli had a change of heart, redeemed himself, and joined forces with Karan and Monami to bring down the terror plot.

4. The Final Showdown & Ending

• Monami and Karan reunited to expose Param's treason in front of the entire academy and his family (including Barkha).
• Param was defeated and arrested.
• With the terrorist threat eliminated, Balli earned his redemption and walked away as a friend.
• How it wrapped up: The show concluded on a positive note. Karan and Monami got their happy ending, the core gang (Sid, Sanju, Faizi, Koel) celebrated their unity, and the cadets successfully graduated from the Parakram Academy.
