FIR or court case should be registered at the initial abuse. best example is the thappad movie. Tapsee's character walked out for just one slap and never looked back. that was the most sensible approach. but its not easy for Indian women. even for employed women, divorce is a stigma. divorce should be normalized if someone is getting abused. the woman's close friends, parents and family should be supportive in this matter. so they get courage to get divorced. women should stop giving chances to their abusive husbands because criminals never change.

government can make small videos encouraging women to walk out of marriage when they get abused and they can spread awareness about basic human rights, divorce should be considered an option.

Divorce is treated like a stigma here. People take pride in staying in marriages even when it becomes toxic af. This Twisha girl was financially independent also yet she did not walk out of the marriage.

I believe modern problems need modern solutions. so its high time divorce should be normalized.

We're such a hypocritical society, especially when it comes to women. From the highest number of female infantacides to rapes to honor killings to dowry. This is one area, we truly are "Vishwaguru" in and then we put on this mask of Dharma and worship Devis.

Divorce nahi denge, par jala denge!! Izzat and all.

So, actually, who is accountable for not caring enough for women's welfare but have the power to do so...(at least since 12 years) ...

Every constituency has a political leader...and there are elections... so potential candidates should already show ( b e f o r e the elections) what importance they give to women welfare through actions done...

I don't know how much these ranks count, but India ranks 131st out of 148 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report and 157th out of 180 in the World Press Freedom Index.

To close the circle: What did Kangana for women welfare in h e r constituency???

I think equally parents are responsible for this

They say adjust now you are married do not come home

ome say think of your younger siblings how we shall marry them who will give hubby to younger sister or wife to son

Brothers do not want sister back as divorce because have to share parents property

Parents do not want back because so much dowry money waste on daughters wedding and what relatives society say if daughter back

If daughter already back parents and brothers force hit abuse saying go back hubby home

Even most educated women working in IT in big city parents will not allow divorce or to come back parents home i know many such women suffering struggling earning in lakhs every year

Best is woman buy home in your name shift there if in laws or parents brother harass after wedding

Parents and brothers are equally abusive to woman who leaves hubby house and comes back

So women have no where to go

Further whatever woman earns before marraige all parebts use of she has no money with her to rent or shift own place after wedding if hubby in laws trouble

Its two edged sword for women both as daughter and married woman

I agree. Reminds me of something my colleague once said she had heard a doctor say once your married whether ur a doctor engineer or any other professional it doesn’t matter once u enter the house your just a daughter in law and she was surprised to hear that and she was like we thought professionals would have a better life than others cos they are earning their own money but the truth is ur mother in law can be an uneducated person also but she will rule that house and have right over you. That’s the bitter truth in most of the houses. Our desi culture will shame women for having a voice. Even if she’s mistreated by her husband and in laws they would be made to feel like they have no place to call home. I saw on one Malayalam news channel the anchor was like instead of spending crores on dowry invest that money in girls future by depositing it in their names in banks let them enjoy their lives and if we are paying someone to marry you then that person should listen to the girl not other way around. If you are taking money then you have to obey what they are saying. But our elders would rather die than question in laws cos of the fake respect and ladka wala have upper hand nonsense. What will people do if women refuse to marry their sons. What will happen to them getting grandkids. I think women should just get educated and move out of homes and marry on their terms.

Saw mother in law’s IV with Barkha Dutt and when she asked do u know where your son is MIL is like I don’t know only advocate has access. So this lady had been talking abt what kind of person her DIL is what she did or didn’t do and she doesn’t know where her own son is. Our desi MIL need to focus on their sons upbringing rather than finding faults with DIL
