I am unable to understand how exactly this story goes

Gautam clearly said that once Karan entered Shantiniketan he was forgotten by family. They also showed the scene of his entry.

Then again today Tulsi says she raised Karan. I am completely confused as per this story line was Karan raised by Tulsi or did he enter late as an adult
