Newyork (2009)..Did the movie humanize terrorists?

Dia's recent comment sparked online debate and all of a sudden an acclaimed movie of 2009, Newyork, comes to mind.

For some reason, BW has had a history of humanizing terrorists in most of their movies..something so problematic because nothing can justify the actions of these monsters, period.

However, what are your thoughts on NewYork? The movie through out its narrative justified why John's character became a terrorist and come to think to it today, it was problematic AF. Thoughts?

I haven't watched New York but your post made me remember Mission Kashmir movie. That movie full on humanized a terrorist. A child who witnessed a 'monster' murdering his family got to know his foster father is actually that 'monster'. Then that child was brainwashed by a terrorist and ends up joining his group only to end up killing his innocent foster mother years later. In the end after a long fight this terrorist is forgiven because he killed the main terrorist.

Now I realize the story was so problematic. 😂 First of all Sanjay Dutt should have been suspended for not protecting the innocent family and instead murdering them. Secondly Hrithik should have been punished by law for murdering an innocent woman.

As I don't think that any human is born a terrorist, there always are reasons why someone becomes one. Doesn't harm to highlight some mechanisms that can lead to it, I think.

No one is born one but my problem is the sympathy element being associated with any character who engages in terrorism. In NewYork, Katrina's character acknowledges that John is a terrorist but says she hopes one day he quits..is she talking about a terrorist or a smoker!!? Also the sympathy shown at the end for him when he is killed..my problem is basically with that.

Never saw that movie and i am glad i did not. What about Dil Se? That dealt with terrorism too..i guess Manisha was one? Never saw that one as well but thats what i heard

It wasn’t fair how he was tortured when he was innocent. The torturing methods can be horrible. Not everyone will accept it, forgive them and move on.

Only God can kill any human not any human

Yes some ppl suffer a lot

Like i watched Mission Kashmir as kid

Yes Sanjay dutt had killed Hrithik family by mistake

Yes Sanjay dutt was wrong

That do not mean Hrithik become a terrorist to take revenge

and what does he do kill the lady who is his mother who took care of him after his family is over

Do not forgive Sanjay Dutt but why kill his wife

Not all are great to forgive

By that logic most Ukrainians must have hatred of Russians and kill them

Or most Jews should kill Germans

Or most Palestinians must kill Isreal jews

You must understand that this war is between Israel government and hamas a militant organization

Its not between Palestinian citizens and Israel commoners

Commoners cannot decide any policy its govt that decides

So why attack or kill commoners who listens to them anyways

Instead if your family is killed go help old age home ppl and kids who are orphans live better life you will get peace and happiness

Your family will be proud of you in heaven seeing you have become a good human than go around killing other party innocents

She was a suicide bomber

Movie presented what happens to her as wrong but also I don't think terrorism was justified

Because the act was never carried out, she died with SRK, he didnt let her kill innocent people, he understood her reasons but stopped her

So she didn't actually become a terrorist although she was on her way to be one

I watched it years ago and this is all I remember, if wrong, do correct me

Bollywood movies have always glorified terrorists because of their connections with Dawood

Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam movies glorify both Naxals and terrorists due to influence of communists and Islamists

People who read books and consider themselves intelligent read Arundhati Roy who has defended and glorified every kind of terrorism and violence for years

Support for terrorists is actually a very "woke" thing to do
