We are down to the final fixture in Group A at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The defending champions, India, take on the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

State of the group - India are the only team to have secured qualification for the Super 8s heading into the group's final matchday. Pakistan and the USA are tied on four points, while the Netherlands sit on two points. A win for Pakistan would send them through to the next round, shutting the door on both the USA and the Dutch.

The Netherlands will therefore have clarity on their qualification chances before they step onto the field in Ahmedabad. However, even if Pakistan slip up, it would take an extraordinary result for the Dutch to progress on net run rate, given the significant dent their NRR has taken due to the loss against the USA.

India in focus - After the USA pushed them into a corner, their subsequent games against Namibia and arch-rivals Pakistan did not pose the same level of challenge. Even so, Suryakumar Yadav and his men will believe they are yet to put together a complete performance across all three departments.

Top order cushion - Abhishek Sharma has two ducks in as many games, but his early departures have not hurt India much because Ishan Kishan has provided brisk starts at the top. Similarly, the fluency one expects from Tilak Varma has been missing. He will be keen to find confidence before the next round begins with a score of note against the Dutch.

An eye on the Super 8s - With a three-day gap between the final group fixture and the opening Super 8 clash against South Africa, India will be relieved that there is no travel involved. With qualification already sealed, a few players could be rested, especially Jasprit Bumrah, whose workload India have been careful in managing leading up to the tournament.

Washington Sundar, who is returning from an injury layoff and only linked up with the squad ahead of the Namibia game, could be given an opportunity to get some game time. That would allow him to regain rhythm and ensure the team is not forced to throw him into the deep end should a late injury arise during the Super 8 stage.

Highs, lows, and what ifs - After coming so close yet falling short against Pakistan, the Netherlands managed to put that disappointment behind them with a win over Namibia. However, the Scott Edwards-led unit was handed a heavy defeat by the USA, who outplayed and outclassed them in all departments.

Top order troubles - Their start at the top has been a major concern. The highest opening stand for the Dutch so far is just 28, with Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd, two of the top three run scorers in Netherlands T20I history, yet to make a significant impact. The experienced Colin Ackermann has also not delivered with the bat, which has only compounded their struggles. Bas de Leede, though, has provided valuable all round contributions, the kind of impact many expected from him coming into the tournament.

Powerplay problems with the ball - As the saying goes, well begun is half done, but the Dutch have struggled to make inroads with the ball in the Powerplay and will need to improve in that phase if they are to challenge the might of the Indian batting unit.

Probable Best Performers of the Match

Probable Best Batter: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav could be the key batter in this clash. He has scored 128 runs in three games at an impressive strike rate of 140.66. Yadav played a crucial role in India’s win against the USA and will be looking to continue his rich form against the Netherlands, aiming to make a big impact and set a positive tone as India heads into the Super Eight stage.

Probable Best Bowler: Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy

Indian mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy could prove to be the key bowler in this clash. He has taken six wickets in the nine overs he has bowled across three games. His spells have often been crucial and game-changing, and he will be expected to strike at vital moments to give India the upper hand against the Netherlands.

Will India rotate squad?

Having already sealed their spot in Super 8, India will play against the Netherlands to complete formalities. But more importantly, they will get a taste of the Ahmedabad pitch ahead of the IND vs SA clash. With big games coming up in Super 8, it will be wise to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. India can also use their bench, bringing Washington Sundar back. Arshdeep Singh is likley to return in place of Kuldeep Yadav and if Bumrah is rested, Mohd Siraj will get a go.

The Netherlands, led by Scott Edwards, are coming back from a heavy defeat to the USA. They will face an uphill battle against India's depth and experience. Their openers, Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd, provide firepower, and all-rounders like Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek add balance. Yet they have struggled for consistency against elite teams.

The high-scoring Narendra Modi Stadium pitch favours batters, with big totals common. Teams batting first have posted 175+ regularly. India may opt for pace-heavy options like Arshdeep Singh, while the Netherlands could rotate bowlers.

Unbeaten in the tournament so far, India enter this clash as the overwhelming favourites. They just thrashed Pakistan by 61 runs to qualify for Super 8. The IND vs NED match is a mere obligation. But with the Super 8 stage coming up, India will look to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya to keep them fresh. Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar are likely to come in. Abhishek Sharma will also look to capitalise and get back to form after two ducks.

India picked Kuldeep against Pakistan as they wanted an extra spinner. Will Arshdeep Singh be back in the XI, given that it's not going to do a great deal for the spinners here? Or will they rest Bumrah? This will be a dress rehearsal for the Super 8s game against South Africa coming Sunday and the final could possibly be played here as well.

Ishan Kishan played the best knock of his life last Sunday in that incredible win against Pakistan. When all others struggled, he was in full flow and only got out himself trying to over-push. Abhishek Sharma has been insane but interestingly he has four ducks to his name in the last 6 T20Is. Such has been his hitting aura that you don't even realise he's failed. He couldn't have asked for a better venue to get back into the runs. It's not overly tough once he sees off any initial help with the new ball.

17:45 Local Time, 12:15 GMT, 17:45 IST: Bowlers beware! This is Ahmedabad! Bat does the talking here. There is very little margin for error, as the white ball loves sailing into the stands of this grand theater. No side has ever won a T20I here scoring less than 180, and no side has ever won a T20I chasing over 180. So it's simple. If you are batting first you can't even look a centimeter down of 200. But if your opponent is India, try entertaining the thought of keeping them under that score if you bowl first. They are beasts these days. They scored 200+ totals for fun in all of their last 4 attempts when batting first coming into the tournament. They don't care if they lose quick wickets. They don't downshift. For that to happen, the pitch has to be really tough for stroke play, like it was at the Wankhede and RPS. But this is Ahmedabad! Bat does the talking all the time.
