India picked Kuldeep against Pakistan as they wanted an extra spinner. Will Arshdeep Singh be back in the XI, given that it's not going to do a great deal for the spinners here? Or will they rest Bumrah? This will be a dress rehearsal for the Super 8s game against South Africa coming Sunday and the final could possibly be played here as well.
Ishan Kishan played the best knock of his life last Sunday in that incredible win against Pakistan. When all others struggled, he was in full flow and only got out trying to over-push. Abhishek Sharma has been insane but interestingly he has four ducks to his name in the last 6 T20Is. Such has been his hitting aura that you don't even realise he's failed. He couldn't have asked for a better venue to get back into the runs. It's not overly tough once he sees off any initial help with the new ball.
If only Max O'Dowd had taken the catch off Faheem Arshraf, the Netherlands could have been in contention for this game. Can they rock up and challenge India all the way like the USA did?
"No need to change winning combination, but India should chase today. They have been trying to bat first almost all games." -- We shall know in a couple of minutes if they share those thoughts.
Pitch and Conditions: "Last game of Group A comes from Ahmedabad, and the weather is pretty good to be honest. It says 31 is the high. I think we've gone past that, and it'll be closer to 29 degrees, which is very comfortable, especially with that breeze and the low humidity. The all-important ground dimensions, if you have a look at it, it is 70 metres down the ground, and batting at this end as a right-hander, it's shorter leg side, 60 metres and a bit further, 68 metres," informs Nasser Hussain. "It's a batter's paradise. And it gets better as the night comes on. The dew gets in here a little bit later on. But batters love it here. Second highest scoring ground in the competition so far. So maybe there are a few cracks, but they do absolutely nothing. Now I'll tell you what, as a bowler, well what is successful here? We've seen actually that fuller length, sometimes in the slot area, has been really effective. But it's been more pace off delivery. So if you're a pace bowler, which two teams here, Netherlands and India, both have exceptional pace bowling units, get the ball into the surface, be able to cause a little bit of issues. And we know there's some world-class batters on show that oval light up for those boundary dimensions you've talked about," adds Katey Martin. "Yeah, it is a good pitch. It's black soil. It looks rock hard. Excellent surface. There'll be a real atmosphere here as well this evening. We're looking forward to it." concludes Hussain.
Bowlers beware! This is Ahmedabad! Bat does the talking here. There is very little margin for error as the white ball loves sailing into the stands of this grand theatre. No side has ever won a T20I here scoring less than 180 and no side has ever won a T20I chasing over 180. So it's simple. If you are batting first you can't even look a centimetre down of 200. But if your opponent is India, try entertaining the thought of keeping them under that score if you bowl first. They are beasts these days. They scored 200+ totals for fun in all of their last 4 attempts when batting first coming into the tournament. They don't care if they lose quick wickets. They don't down-shift. For that to happen the pitch has to be really tough for stroke-play, like it was at the Wankhede and RPS. But this is Ahmedabad! Bat does the talking all the time.
Toss time in Ahmedabad. Edwards and Suryakumar out in the middle. Edwards to call. He calls heads, but tails it is. India will bat first.
