Scotland posted a competitive 170/7 after a tale of two halves at the Wankhede, largely built on a blistering 71 off 45 balls from Michael Jones, whose knock included 8 fours and 3 sixes. The Scots appeared on course for a massive total after a dominant 80-run opening stand in the first ten overs, but Nepal staged a spirited comeback through the seam duo of Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav, who shared five wickets to dismantle the middle order and put the brakes on the scoring rate. While Scotland will be disappointed not to have fully capitalized on their explosive start. Nepalās seamers, Sompal and Nandan, staged a sensational comeback by mastering the art of the slower ball. Sompal turned the match on its head with a double strike in the 16th over including a clever knuckle-ball to dismiss Jones, while Nandan dismantled the middle order with disciplined changes in pace. Backed by sharp, energetic fielding that saved crucial runs in the deep, Nepal's bowlers shared five wickets to restrict a Scotland side that once looked destined for 200. Nepal will be the happier side heading into the break, needing 171 to secure their first win of the tournament.
Michael Jones: I thought initially that we were probably on par for slightly more. But in the end, I think the second half innings, the conditions got a little bit tougher, so probably 170 somewhere about where we need to be. (on the pitch) I thought it was a really nice wicket to start with. I think pace on is nice to bat. The ball's still a bit low, a little bit skiddy, but nice. Pace off, I think it's a little bit tricky for batting, so hopefully we'll use that in the second half, take the learnings. Yeah, I thought they used their change-ups really well. They were really clever. I'm not sure how many pace on balls they bowled after the sort of the 15th over, so it was obviously tough out there for batting and sort of finishing the innings. But 170, I think it'll be a close game, but hopefully it's on our side. (on the crowd support for Nepal) Unbelievable. I was doing my best to try and soak it in when I was out there batting and just try and enjoy it, to be honest, as well as obviously try to give it a bit of a smack. But yeah, incredible. The Nepal fans obviously absolutely love their cricket and yeah, it's incredible.
Scotland have lost 17 wickets in death overs (16-20) ā the most by a team this competition

This will be a date that will go down in the annals of Nepalese cricketing history. They will never forget this date. Never ever! Nepal threatened to do it so many times before, like against South Africa in the last T20 World Cup and in this tournament against England but it finally came to fruition tonight in front of their adoring, loving Nepalese supporters. They might not have made it beyond the group stage but this night will linger and last long in the memory of their fans. Everyone who supported them throughout have been made happy tonight.
I can spot the entire Nepal team walk around the Wankhede thanking the crowd for their support. Unreal scenes. Unreal when you consider this is a non-India game. Coming to the chase the partnership between Gulsan Jha and Dipendra Singh Airee took the game away from Scotland. Earlier, the openers set the platform with a quick powerplay but Leask came on and turned the game on its head with three quick wickets. At one stage 70 were needed off 35 balls. That's when Airee flicked a switch and sixes came off his bat. The momentum swung Nepal's way and it never stopped as they rode on the frenzied support from their supporters to garner a famous, famous win.
Dipendra Singh Airee | Player of the Match (translated from Nepalese by Rohit Paudel): First of all, I want to thank the fans who came from Nepal and supported us. That gives a lot of motivation to all of us. And in the last World Cup, we didn't win a single match. So that's why this win is very important for us. (is this one of your best days in your career?) Yeah, I think maybe it's one of the best innings for him, especially while chasing 50 off 23 is very good for him. (experience against England helped?) Yes, definitely. Because we learned a lot from this chase. And that experience is with us. And that helped us today. So thank you. This kind of chase always gives motivation to the group. And the last game against England has given us that few learning experience. So I think this game is very important for us.
Nine wickets for Leask this World Cup ā the joint most for Scotland in T20 World Cups alongside Josh Daveyās efforts in 2021 edition.

Leask has picked up six wickets for balls that clocked 90+ kph ā joint most for a spinner this edition alongside Varun Chakaravarthy.
What an atmosphere at the Wankhede. The noise is deafening. For a non-India game, this is in one of my ex-colleague's (Bharath Ramaraj's) words - "stratospheric".

I am so happy that Nepal won. They are cricket loving nation. Unfortunately they couldn't ever cross the line. Especially losing to England by 4 runs
Thankfully they started their winning journey.Their happiness was just so visible...
And the support they got... OMG never thought a dead rubber match would have full stadium. Nepalis from the entire city seemed to gathered there
Congratulations to Nepal for their win against Scotland.
A first T20 World Cup win in 12 years for an impressive Nepal unit who have been buoyed by their loud supporters. They turned every game of Nepal's into a festival and carnival, adding a lot of color and flavor to the proceedings. Scotland on the other hand, head home like Nepal, but they were a late replacement for Bangladesh and would've been caught cold by the timing of their call-up.
