India Aims to Take Momentum To Colombo

India will fly to Colombo for their only game in the first two rounds outside Indian shores to face archrivals Pakistan in a game that will have a lot at stake. After the poor batting display against the USA, India will hope to not just get another win over Namibia but also get confidence and take momentum with them to Sri Lanka.

Gerhard Erasmus Reveals Unfair Advantage To India

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus raised questions over ICC a day before the match

He revealed that they were not allowed to train under lights while India got two sessions in the night.

"Yeah, we haven't been given a night training [session] before this game, I don't know why. I think India has two night training [sessions] and I see outside that Canada will have a night training now, so make of that what you want, but we'll just rock up and do our Namibian way, which is to fight," said Erasmus in a pre-match press conference.

If this is true, it is not fair at all. Each country, irrespective of their rank should get equal opportunity.

Cheers..

India battling injury and illness vs Namibia

Stats and trivia

- India have now won nine consecutive matches at the T20 World Cup, including all eight in the last edition. This is the longest winning streak in T20 World Cups, going past Australia's eight across 2022 and 2024.

- Against USA, Suryakumar didn't score a single run through the covers, as per ESPNcricinfo's data. His 84 was the highest score by anyone without a run through that part of the field, where data is available.

In the spotlight: Scholtz and Suryakumar

When India were struggling against USA in the unfamiliar conditions laid out by Mumbai, it was Suryakumar's blinder that gave them a match-winning score. That wretched year of 2025, during which he didn't score a single fifty, seems well and truly behind him now. Suryakumar now has more match awards for India than anyone, having gone past Virat Kohli's 16.

Namibia, another Associate side that like to open the bowling with a spinner, will hope Bernard Scholtz can repeat what he did against Netherlands. In defence of a paltry 156, the left-arm spinner took out opener Max O'Dowd and conceded just 27 in his four overs.

The Associate teams have given a very good account of themselves in this World Cup. Matches involving them have been far closer than expected; a few even flirted with upsets before being decided by one key moment. India themselves were given an early scare by the USA. Reduced to 77/6, it took a rescue act from skipper Suryakumar Yadav, whose 84* lifted India to a competitive total that the bowlers eventually defended. Today’s opponents are Namibia, and India know they cannot afford to take them lightly. On paper it may look like a mismatch, but this format has a habit of producing the unexpected. Let’s see what this contest has in store. Hello and welcome..

I think they should have been given an opportunity to assess the conditions and pitch , train in it to get a grip. This is like asking a small kid to go against a champion wrestler, hands tied behind their back, and eyes blindfolded.

Even if India wins, it’ll not be considered fair and square. But Namibia should take up the matter with ICC, since they are the ones scheduling the fixtures. Just because BCCI has massive pull, I don’t think they have much of a say as to the order of the matches. All they can ask is, adequate rest for the team.

Thankfully, Namibia won the toss and opted to bowl first.

There will be a good batting display now.

Teams:

India (Playing XI): Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan(w), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah

Namibia (Playing XI): Louren Steenkamp, Jan Frylinck, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Gerhard Erasmus(c), JJ Smit, Zane Green(w), Ruben Trumpelmann, Malan Kruger, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo, Max Heingo

Suryakumar Yadav: We were looking to bat first. Very happy with it. As long as we are losing the toss and winning the game, we are fine with it. Dew is going to be a big factor, but when you go out and defend totals, it gives you confidence. Abhishek is still not fine, he will miss a game or two. Sanju comes in, similar batter, explosive. Bumrah comes in for Siraj.

Namibia have won the toss and have opted to field

Gerhard Erasmus: We are going to have a bowl. It is a very good flat cricketing surface, from a surface and dew point of view it is the right thing to do. It is about tightening our skillset. Looks like a good wicket, try and chase it in the second half. That's why we play cricket, to entertain. We have two changes.

Namibia have won the toss and have opted to field
