Both. Mostly bitterness. My mom has tried that as well and I still don't like it. The skin has most of the bitterness so that's why she even tried removing that and then soaking it and doing it that way, but I guess some of it's also my brain. You know how your brain just sees something that gives you bad memories and stays that way, that's how it is for me with karela. smiley37

@ Hmm. Totally understand. Your Karela is baingan for me. I can eat bhartha but all other types of baingan sabzis I avoid to eat. Something with my childhood may be unpleasant memories and its still there. N on contrary my hubby and my whole family loves eggplant seems like I am the odd one out smiley36

same ditto, i dont like eggplant. I am fine if its mixed with other veggies but bharta and all no no. Hubby’s fav is baingan haha

My husband likes the thin, long green eggplant sabji. It has less seeds. I buy that.

Stuffed eggplant is nice if made well.

U shd take recipes of karela from diet queen Anjali Mehta

Karela ka soup karela ka halwa karela cake

Me too hate karela

My mom used to scrap the skin wash multiple times to get rid of bitterness

The scrapped skin is then stored in freezer

She would take few at a time mix in atta with usual masalas

Uski roti bana deti thi

And surprisingly bthe bitterness was hardly felt

Poora karela khane ko bolo toh i will run in other direction 😂😂
