Abhishek and Ansh were drug smugglers. Vishal didn’t know Abhishek was a criminal and he entered into a partnership with him for import export business. Ansh and Abhishek used the business as a front to supply drugs. Vishal found out about it and was furious. I think he also said that they had intentionally zeroed in on him for Abhishek to approach as a partner because of his mom.
Vishal’s mom Payal (Mihir’s ex-fiancé) was a cabinet minister in the Central Government and they knew that if they were caught someday, having Vishal as a business partner would ensure Payal intervenes to help them to save her son. Payal might not care to help Shobha’s drug smuggling brother but she would care about her son. What would help Vishal would help them and what hurt him would hurt them.
But Vishal got to know about their plans, and planned to expose them, using his mom’s contacts probably to turn state witness and provide evidence against Abhishek and Ansh. He was however killed as Abhishek and Ansh found out that Vishal was onto them. Shobha and Tulsi watch Vishal die in front of them as his cable car crashed in Switzerland and Vishal died on the spot.
Everyone was unaware of Abhishek’s true colours then. Payal was impressed by him and warmed up to him as he pretended to be really nice and a decent fellow. Post Vishal’s death, Abhishek fell in love with Shobha and Payal noticed his feelings. Initially though Payal disliked Shobha, by this time she had come to love her like a daughter. She didn’t want Shobha to stay alone forever as Vishal’s widow. So she talked with Tulsi Mihir about getting Shobha remarried and they obviously approved.
Shobha resisted initially but later she relented especially as she had a newborn son. Payal convinced her stating her son deserves to have a father. Shobha would marry Abhishek eventually fall in love with him too. When she was pregnant with her second child, a daughter she had with Abhishek, Tulsi finds out that Abhishek was also responsible for getting Vishal killed. So she obviously exposes him but Shobha and Payal refused to believe her.
Later they do learn that Tulsi wasn’t lying or mistaken but was telling them the truth. I think Abhishek does go to jail after that as he surrenders to police and admits his crimes. He cannot handle Shobha hating him and moreover being disgusted by the prospect of being his wife. I think she tried to kill herself and that’s why he surrendered.
IIRC, after that we didn’t get much about his whereabouts. Shobha raised her two kids alone with help from Payal.
That’s the canon of S1. Lord alone knows what will they show now.
