I agree. Fielding has not been a strong point as far as India is concerned.

Our bowlers and batters have been talented enough to compensate for poor fielding.

Being flexible enough to take impossible catches is one thing, but dropping easy, catchable ones indicates a lack of concern—a “take it easy” attitude that needs to change.

Recent data places our fielding percentage at around 75% which is less than when compared with England/NZ.

Also after Asia cup, this percentage has reduced further.

Like you said, We have been conditioned to look at only batting and bowling as the main aspects of cricket. We should start thinking about fielding with just as much importance.

@pink: Some missed catches are understandable. Not every catch is easy, but the effort counts.

Even in bowling, India tends to concede a higher number of extras, which is another quantifiable area. These may appear minor in isolation, but over a match or series, they often become the difference between winning and losing.
