Kashvee Gautam has picked up two wickets apiece in the Giants' recent couple of matches. Although she has been expensive, Kashvee's ability to strike with wickets have impressed many. The 22-year-old can be one of the bowlers to watch out for.

The team batting second may win the match

The points table is tightly packed, with four of the five teams locked on four points after 13 matches. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already qualified for the playoffs with a perfect record, having won all five of their matches so far.

The only thing separating the four sides is net run rate. UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants, however, have had contrasting starts to their respective campaigns.

After three defeats on the bounce, UP Warriorz turned their campaign around by completing a double against defending champions — Mumbai Indians. In their last game, Warriorz batted first and Meg Lanning led from the front with a knock of 70.

Phoebe Litchfield also scored a half-century. She made 61 off 37. Harleen Deol and Chloe Tryon made 25 and 21, respectively. They posted 187/8 in 20 overs.

In reply, Shikha Pandey picked up two wickets, while the other four bowlers—Kranti Gaud, Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma and Chloe Tryon—chipped in with one wicket apiece to restrict MI to 165/6 in 20 overs, sealing a 22-run win.

Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, won their first two games of the season but have since lost three on the trot. They come into this clash on the back of a defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Bowling first in that game, the Giants made a strong start and had RCB in early trouble with two quick wickets. However, a couple of 50-plus partnerships in the middle overs saw them concede 178/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Ashleigh Gardner waged a lone battle with a half-century, but with little support from the other end, the Giants could only manage 117/8 in their 20 overs.

So, which streak will be broken tonight in Vadodara—Gujarat’s losing run or UP Warriorz’s winning streak?

18:31 Local Time, 13:01 GMT, 18:31 IST: RCB are sitting atop with almost a direct entry to the final. And the rest are in an absolute tangle. The other four teams are locked at 4 points, which is why the Gujarat Giants actually still have a chance at qualifying to the playoffs. Three successive losses have dropped them to last place, while their opponents UP Warriorz gained good ground with back to back wins over the Mumbai Indians. The maximum that MI can achieve is 8 points and this where the others have an edge as they have an extra game at hand.

Pitch report by Stacy Ann King and Mithali Raj: We are pitch No. 6, 55m square boundaries both sides. The straight hit on the ground is 66 meters. This is a black soil wicket, The surface is hard. It's rolled well. There are visible cracks. Now, that suggests that the wicket is dry. So in the first innings, it may not come that much onto the bat, but second innings, under light and dew, the ball will skip through. So it gets better for batting, gets better for chasing.

When teams arrived here in Vadodara they thought it would be another high-scoring venue but two games into this leg, there is evidence that it won't be as batter-friendly as Navi Mumbai. Ash Gardner after the loss last match wasn't pleased about batters losing out on scoring opportunities and playing cross-batted shots to throw it away. She wants it simple - bowl stump to stump and then with the bat play with a straight bat to the maximum extent possible. The Giants definitely have the advantage of having already experienced the conditions here as the Warriorz are yet to taste the surface here.

Shashi Tharoor quipped, “Gambhir is the hardest-working coach after the PM!” ?!! and just like that, Gambhir finally found his sole admirer on the planet !!
When praise is this rare, it deserves a standing ovation… or at least a chuckle!smiley4

Ash Gardner | GG skipper: We wanted to bowl as well.

UP Warriorz Women have won the toss and have opted to field

Meg Lanning | UPW skipper: We are going to bowl. If we can put GG under some pressure early. It's already dewy. Back into training since the last couple of days. Assessing the conditions is really important. Perhaps not as much bounce here as Navi Mumbai. Same team for us.

Playing 11--

UP Warriorz Women (Playing XI): Meg Lanning(c), Kiran Navgire, Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Chloe Tryon, Shweta Sehrawat(w), Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma, Asha Sobhana Joy, Shikha Pandey, Kranti Gaud

Ash Gardner | GG skipper: We wanted to bowl as well. Hopefully we can set the tone early here. You probably have to a lot straighter for longer. That seems simple. Try to be clinical in our decision making. It's a positive that we can go and set the tone early with the bat. Danni Wyatt comes in for Georgia Wareham.
