I had been pondering how to get my views across on this Hrithik Munni thing since last night but somehow couldn’t find the right words until now… and I have to write what I feel about them not as a shipper/fan but as someone who finds them this track is absolutely leaving a sour taste in my mouth especially with the way they’re handling this.
I don’t understand the point of having a song sequence for them. They could have simply shown these two share an eye contact, low or no music as Hrithik remembers his harsh words while Munni’s shown approaching him. Then she asks him if they can talk and the same discussion can happen leaving Hrithik dazed and like he talked with a long lost friend again after ages. A friend who was concerned about his well being… and then he could’ve simply thought how strange it is he got more sympathy, pity and concern from a girl he hadn’t spoken to in nearly 6 years after treating her so badly than he did from his own wife.
The scenes between Hrithik Munni are already hard to watch so I don’t even know how to root for them. And I feel absolutely nauseated thinking that they’re going for a sasta YHM track with these two by including Timsi with Mittali being their in-house Shaggy counterpart.
Timsi needs a better mother, no doubt about it. Hrithik could use a better wife too… but I don’t see why should Munni be a scapegoat for these things when neither her pairing with Hrithik comes across as something palatable nor do I feel her bond with Timsi will change my mind about it and I say this as an absolute YHM addict who got suckered into watching that show all because of that cutie patootie Ruhi and her chemistry with Ishita and Raman!
Had the writers shown Hrithik Munni meeting with each other frequently wherein Hrithik one day just ends up talking to her about things like he might have years ago before realising their equations have changed… and then been shown pondering why is it that he can talk about anything with Munni even now so easily, so freely and feel like he’s genuinely found someone who listens and understands… I could have perhaps been fine with their pair.
But here Hrithik’s change of heart is entirely based on the change in her circumstances which makes this so gross to watch.
Had the genders been flipped, and Munni been the rich girl who rejected Hrithik only to find herself drawn to him now that he seems not only successful but perhaps even a more stable and brighter prospect than her own family whose financial situation is rocky, it would’ve taken no time for people to call her an opportunist, a gold-digger.
The only thing that can make their track palatable to me is not if it ends with Hrithik marrying Munni and finding his happily ever after with a wife he now feels he deserves and a daughter he loves but if Munni gets her closure and can move on from him. It’s clear she still carries a torch for him… but they shouldn’t be together.
If Tulsi’s self respect and integrity are so important to show to the audience, to empower women then I feel the same courtesy should be extended to Munni too.
Munni shouldn’t sacrifice her self respect and dignity at the altar of a man who is so shallow that he can fall for her seemingly in no time just because she’s now a collector.
