UP Warriorz Women vs Mumbai Indians Women, 10th Match

Women's Premier League 2026

UP-W vs MI-W: WPL 2026 का 10वां मुकाबला, पिच रिपोर्ट, प्लेइंग-11 और मैच प्रेडिक्शन

Meg Lanning had very few, and rather clichéd, words for her team taking the field after three defeats on the bounce.

A change of scenery after helming her team to three runners-up medals landed the Aussie in another franchise in WPL 2026, which endured a false start.

Until, of course, they faced Mumbai Indians two nights ago where the narrative flipped, at least a little. They managed to add one W to their three Ls.

This league, its five-team structure and rapid turnaround time offers them a chance to double that when they go up against Harmanpreet Kaur's side once more in the day game of the double header.

The talk inside the Mumbai Indians dressing room will not be intense either. They sit second with two wins but also have as many defeats.

They will believe an afternoon fixture might suit their batting might and offer an opportunity to quickly bounce back from the latest misstep.

Cricket commentary | UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians Women, 10th Match, Womens Premier League 2023

It is afterall, a franchise that knows a thing or two about going the distance, having pocketed two of the three titles already. Their lost column however, has two already - that's as many they lost in all of 2023 and one fewer than last season. It's still very early days, so the messaging here too is expected to be along the lines of go out there, enjoy yourselves, back your skills.

When: Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz, January 17, 3:00 PM IST

Where: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai

What to expect: Big scores? The one other afternoon fixture in Navi Mumbai thus far, saw Gujarat Giants smash 207 against UP Warriorz and still win only by a margin of 10 runs.

MI vs UPW, WPL Live Score: Winless UPW meet in-form Mumbai Indians - The Times of India

The UP Warriorz registered their first win of the season with a 7-wicket triumph over Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday as Harleen Deol stared with a half-century.

MI, who were put to bat first by UP, managed to post a tot of 161 runs for the loss of 5 wickets thanks to Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 65 runs from 43 and Nicola Carey’s unbeaten 32 run-knock.

Sciver-Brunt returned to haunt Meg Lanning and Kiran Navgire with the ball as she removed the UPW openers before Deol and Phoebe Litchfield steadied the chase. Litchfield fell to Amelia Ker for 25, before Chloe Tryon came out to support the sparkling Deol with a quick 11-ball-27-run knock to take the Warriorz over the line.

No doubt about the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Harleen Deol collects the award. She says she is happy for the team that they have won the first game. On the last match, she admits she was batting well but today Chloe Tryon helped her by taking some pressure off. Mentions she got boundary balls and she put them away. Over the last 24 hours, it was just normal preparation from her. Adds that it doesn’t make sense to keep stressing it. Acknowledges that it was hard to score runs in the first innings but the wicket got better in the second innings as the ball was coming on nicely. If this was the best knock, she admits it was the best knock of this season.

Meg Lanning, the skipper of UP Warriorz says they played good cricket in the previous matches but she is happy to beat a team like the Mumbai Indians today. Adds it’s a big learning curve as a captain, they had really good chats and always had a winning attitude in the group. On Harleen Deol, Lanning says she had a quick chat with her, today she showed what she can do. Feels her bowlers did an excellent job to keep MI near 160. Expresses that they just needed some momentum and today’s win will help them a lot.

Mumbai Indians skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur says that they were looking for a score around 200 as defending is hard on this pitch. Praises the knock from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Nicola Carey, adding that the duo rescued them from a precarious position. Credits Harleen Deol for the way she batted. Mentions that the dew always plays a big part here and chasing is a bit easier. Admits that setting totals is something the team need to work upon. Appreciates the effort from her bowlers as Kaur feels it was difficult to bowl with the wet ball and the dew around. Kaur ends by saying that she was surprised to see Harleen Deol retire out in the previous match.

Earlier, despite a disciplined start by the UP Warriorz, the Mumbai Indians executed a late-innings surge to post a competitive 161/5. After being inserted to bat, Mumbai’s new opening pair of Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalini struggled for rhythm against a tight Warriorz attack, scoring just 32 in the powerplay. However, the game shifted dramatically when the returning Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed 65 off 43 balls and anchoring an 85-run partnership with Nicola Carey. While the Warriorz’s spinners, including Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone found significant turn throughout the innings, their discipline wavered at the death.

In an uncharacteristic display, the Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit struggled with execution, failing to apply the clinical pressure usually associated with the side. While Nat Sciver-Brunt briefly threatened to derail the chase with a brilliant double-strike in a single over, the rest of the attack lacked discipline, repeatedly feeding the same channel outside off-stump. This allowed a pressured Harleen Deol to find her rhythm early. Once MI let her escape the initial squeeze, she punished their persistence and never looked back, steering the Warriorz toward a dominant victory with the help of a fine knock from Chloe Tryon.
