Im on epi 11 or 12 of when life gives you tangerines ..

It does strike a chord specially if you are a parent ..but it is a bit too heavy..still I appreciate the honesty with which its narrated ..very simple yet very deep , very much in your face & very relatable ..

I belive this show reminds you of the illusion vs reality of life ..

If you've seen the show you will understand what im about to write here , if not , pl go ahead & watch it bec its totally worth it ❤️

From where it starts , it seems like its about the struggles of ae seun..a smart brilliant child with normal dreams , aspirations to make it big , who wants her mother by her side & not see her suffer to make the ends meet ..but it was so much more than her life..

A mother , her daughter & then her daughter , who believe that their child's life will be better than theirs & may be their struggle & hardwork will make it easy for her ..but the reality was that they were bound by the limitations that the life had put on them ..the reality was , no matter how much a parent struggles to give their children a better life , they may not appreciate it , they can still fall short of the expectations ....

the regret eats them up, the parent and the child both ..the regret of seeing their parents suffer bec of them , the regret of a child of not being able to do enuf for their parents , the regret of a parent that they cant do enuf for their children and most importantly ..

To see their children make the same mistakes as them and basically end up with the same fate as them ..

No matter how much she said "im not going to be a home maker , i will do this that " , destiny plays a cruel part...Same with her daughter , who was better placed than her mother but still , so desperate for a better life for herself & ready to make the same compromises as her mother did..i guess it takes a lifetime for a child to understand the life & struggles of their parents , and they do it when they go through the same stuff & its very late to regret or make amends with their parents ..

in this show, both the lead characters deserve a standing ovation ..not supported by their families , they carve their way out of poverty misery & totally helplessness ..he had to provide for his family (i wish the concept of family planning was present at that time ) & he cud only depend on his limited skills ..

They do move on ..full of tears and hope for a better future ..the moment when they lose their child was heartbreaking , that epi is so so so brilliant ..kudos to the actors ..

one place where they cud do better is not shift the timelines so frequently ..it was tough to keep track of it ..if in the subtitles they didnt mention middle aged & young , i wouldnt know for a long time what was going on ..

I teared up at so many places ..when the old ae seun & her husband are walking down the road & he said he'll first send them away & then die ..when they lost their child ..and many many more..when they receive help from unexpected places & their kindness really pays off...

IU was brilliant, she is just incredible ..abs top class acting , & so was the hero ..I also loved her daughter & later got to know she was also played by IU😲 i couldn't figure it out till I actually tried to find out about her ..the supporting chars were all good ..

Finished it & also updated my favs list bec this one def makes it to the top ..

Its def a must watch show & the best slice of life drama I've seen (hospital Playlist is still at the top 🤪)

Where do I start..bec i haven't cried in a while watching a show .. im at loss of words , I probably cant do justice to this lovely show ..

I can only tell where I cried the most ..

Firstly I was so happy to watch this guy .. Kim seon oh ..I just love to watch him , short role hi sahi he was the best son in law here ..

This entire track where their daughter is fighting for her first love , n the guy is also ok but his mother is trouble , this full track , is so amazing..her parents were breaking from inside tht their precious daughter wont be treated well but they let it go thinking of her happiness ..its when she breaks off the engagement , I was so proud of her ..its better to suffer heartbreak then live with such a man who cant take a stand for her ..why would she hear insults for her parents ?

The guy she eventually settles with was a fine man, loved her to the core , supported her , most importantly respected her & her parents..hereby giving a very imp lesson that in thr hope that everything will be OK once a couple marries is a myth ..if there are issues before marriage, there will def be tons more after so its better to end before ..

Their daughters wedding is where I cried the most ...thankfully someone from kdrama land made an entry in her life & rescued her🤣 ..and in the last episode i cried & cried & cried ... ..it felt like spring in winters when he was with her ..🩷 in his last moments too he only thought of her , if shell be treated fine , if shell be loved & protected ...if she will try to fulfill her dreams ... im seriously at loss of words here..

The first frost .. I believed it to be an office drama but it turned out to be very different ..

Adding the first frost to my recommendation list ..

Haven't come across a drama which touches ptsd soooo well & so realistically..most of the shows I've seen had their roots in childhood trauma ..

Watching this hero for the first time but I've seen this FL in my boss ..shes abs gorgeous 😍

Im half way through the first frost so ill be putting forth my views..

It's a simple story about this couple who are high school mates , they separate & they meet again after many years to fall in love all over again ..but there's more to the story which is the Crux , I wont discuss it ..in one line , shes traumatized soul 💔 & its abt her journey to heal ..

Firstly ..the leads are gorgeous ..and its impossible not to miss this one ..specially the female lead.. I haven't seen a face so beautiful & innocent and here in this show , her beauty is a character in itself ..also her natural personality (coz I've seen her in other shows) is a bit subdued & mysterious n here everything just falls in place for her bec she had to play that char .she is totally tailor made for this one ..at times she tends to act wooden but here , the char needed this & it looks more real than probably , if she had to "act" .

The male lead is very handsome but his acting is a bit okayish..but as a character omg ! May be hes the greenest forests of all the men out there ..his sincerity in pursuing her is on a diff level ..in many reviews its said that hes a doormat , dunno how they got this idea bec I neither saw him self destructive in love , I didnt see him hurting his family or himself , I didnt see him not respecting anybody boundaries ..his self respect was rock solid ..infact ...he became a sincere person after falling in love..he wanted to prove himself more , studied hard & improved his grades ..he wanted to be with his girl but never pressured her or pursued her openly or imposed himself on her..

His patience was some other level I mean ..inspite of knowing her soo damn well , he respected her wish , he gave her time to accept him again , he found a way to her heart ..she had huge walls around her neck she wont let anyone in , except him ..

The beauty of this story is , its a slow burn romance but it doesnt feel like it ..bec its all about the 2 of them ..thats what makes me watch any show ..i mean i love the supporting chars if theyre written well but here the focus on leads was much needed , thats what gave depth to their story ....coming bk to our fl , each layer of her personality is uncovered bit by bit & its hurting n overwhelming at the same time..its so sad to see her like this ..dealing with everything on her own , not sharing her pain..shes like a wilted flower blown away by the storm ..

N then he enters ..n their story , past & present as its revealed is so beautiful ..the opening sequence of the cable car going bk & forth n the timeliness shifting to the present was quite impactful ..

One thing i really liked is , the opening scene from the past lasts for 3-4 mins but sets the theme for the complete episode ..it was like a jigsaw coming together ..

And when they finally confess to each other , thats the real deal ..

It was as though they picked up frm the point they broke up..he , inspite of witnessing her traumatic past , never asked her anything to try to protect her ..he just let her fight , he supported her in whatever way he could but not ask her any questions or even offer help ..

Exactly those scenes gave me goosebumps..when she finally , finally cried in his arms , hold him tight & he tells her that she too deserves all the good things in this world.. that she has him ..that he will always be by her side..to not let anybody shit talk affect her..

Before that too, they confess but he is hesitant abt any physical contact ..both were.i thought she will be traumatized for her , she wont be ready for it yet ..that only shows how well he understood her ..

They confess to each other but when shes pursuing him , theres this scene where she sleep walks into his room & he requests her to make it a little more obvious otherwise how will he give himself to her all over again ..ill never forget this scene It was so touching ...its my fav so far ..

I guess now the most imp part will start where she will confront her past ..ill be bk when the show ends but do watch it guys ,its really worth it ..

Out of all the discussions that I read I did not see few names among many famous names that you guys talked about here,

1. Kdrama- my roommate is a gumiho. ( romcom, drama, sci-fi, fantasy) one of the best shows from 2021. Never fails to make me laugh and gush over the leads.

2. Cdrama- when I fly towards you. Written by the same author of hidden love and first frost. But this one is about a high school couple, strangers to friends to lovers. I am usually not someone who likes high school romance but it has been done really well. Especially the entire first crush/ love depiction. Very beautifully portrayed.

3. Cdrama- go go squid. ( romcom and esports) this was the second cdrama that I ever watched after my girlfriend is an alien. And has been my comfort show since then. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea because of the entire esports plot line front and centre but the main couple are a treat to watch every time. It is written by the same author who has written amidst a snowstorm of love.

Yeah, when I fly towards you I didnt put in my favs list..doesnt imply its a bad one ..Ive seen it , it was fine but I ff a lot of episodes ..the last few epis were quite nice ..not much of a fan of sci fi & e sports either ..

I created this thread n put up my favs , and everyone else can put up their own favs so that recommendations are all out therr ..🙂
