I respect your view, dear, but as a non-desi 'outsider' my view differs - which doesn't change my (positive) impression about the skillfully made movie. The movie is worth to get studied
What a tribute by Ranveer's costar Naseem Mughal who played Lulli Dakait....He summed up so beautifully Ranveer's performance and what he brings to the table of every movie and he lifts it up with his sheer presence, passion and dedication..
One fun fact: Ranveer has a scene with practically EVERY SINGLE character regardless of how small or big, in the movie....

I understand.
People abroad particularly think in a different manner. As an Indian, my views are coloured based on my experiences.
It’s curious how in the age of social media as well news can be suppressed, ignored, misinterpreted or purposely misrepresented based on the people behind it and their biases which also depend on their revenues.
As an Indian my views are based on none of the news reports but simply what we had to live through. One of the movie’s most impactful moments comes from the 26/11 scene. I am from Mumbai, have been born and raised here, lived here all my life and let me tell you, that scene was barely touched the gruesome reality of that day’s horror.
Commandos were purposely delayed from arriving to rescue hostages and by the time they did, the whole media was there to cover it as the world’s most morbid live horror show. They showed us a clip of a couple of transcripts but didn’t show the shooting at Leopold Cafe, at CST station, they didn’t include the mention of the rape of a woman who was assaulted because she was a Jew and later killed alongside her husband who happened to be a Rabbi. Their only survivor was their son barely a toddler.
The then CM of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh reached the site of the attacks with his son Ritiesh, an actor AND a director in tow within no time. The man trying to be our PM today, the current leader of opposition, was off partying in a few days as well as if the attack was no big deal. In a way it was and in a way it wasn’t. India saw regular bomb blasts in those years and the news of a couple of dozen deaths was so common in bomb blasts. This was by far their biggest attack on our soil but unfortunately not the last one. I almost lost my mom in one of those attacks nearly 2 decades ago.
We couldn’t be safe anywhere in our own homeland for no fault of ours. And that’s not a feeling that I wish upon anyone. It’s pretty ugly, uncomfortable and unfortunate.
We never knew when a day could be the one that’s our last while we were simply doing mundane things - going to work/school/home or stepping out for shopping groceries or a movie or outing with friends.
And we got a man who said he was proud of not responding brutally or violently against our perpetrators despite massive pressure as our prime minister of all things.
Worse, we were gonna get labelled as terrorists by the party in power based on our numbers. In 2011, an act was proposed in the parliament that never passed thankfully which intended to pin down the largest majority of people of this country as the defacto criminals in case of a mob attack, irrespective of the reasons behind the same, the tipping point, if I might call it that, and blame it on us simply because we have the most numbers in this country. Simply because we choose to still follow the faith of our ancestors that originated in this land rather than accept a faith of foreign origin or an offshoot of our own religion Hinduism be it as Jains or Sikhs. It was as if we were meant to be punished for simply existing and being ourselves, respecting our past and our ancestors.
Of course later we would find out how a terrorist organisation did have a plan mapped out for 2047 to convert this whole land into their faith. And along with that plan would be found rate cards to convert girls from various Hindu, Sikh, Jain and even Christian communities. Imagine being commodified in your own land for your gender, for your faith, for your existence without any fault of yours and having no awareness whatsoever regarding it as well.
So while people who don’t understand these complexities because they’ve no clue about what we’ve been dealing with for ages may have their opinions based on whatever they think, know and therefore belive. As Indians living in India, we are clear and aware of our lived realities in this country and hence unapologetically ourselves regardless of what the world has to say… because as the movie puts it in the very beginning, we are the people who have been raised on the followings of Gita.
Hence despite what might appear as propaganda or political manipulation or even some supposed conspiracy, we are loving and supporting this movie so strongly. It’s because a movie has finally been bold and brave enough to depict our enemies for what they are, and states unapologetically what it is we must do to them if we wish to survive.
Has anyone been watching the 'Day 1 as spy in India/Pakistan' videos on Dhurandhar that have taken over the Youtube from both sides of the border ?.
You've all the right in the world to view this movie in relation to your own experiences... I never would contest that...to be honest, for an outsider with a logically thinking and well organised mind, I was appalled of some happenings that not only made this abominable attack possible (with all the intel one could have gathered), but also showed reactions with proof of no obvious plan how to treat this terrorist act despite so many previous experiences... (but, dear, discussing that would - most probably - not be the right move at this place here, I feel).
Of course, my emotional core was very much touched nevertheless, the observer in me, though, and my research about the background of the historic events mentioned in the movie or serving as base give me a certain distancing from what the movie most probably (imo) wants to convey.
Still that doesn't hinder me to appreciate the performances and the making of the movie in terms of story-telling and showcasing it as a spy action thriller drama.

I understand.
Lived experiences lead to emotions, logic is applied when the same is learned as news.
I would have the same views on attacks happening elsewhere in the world. I would be empathetic towards the victims and hope the perpetrators were punished. But I could never hate the criminals who did this to those innocent people as much as those who have been on the receiving end of that attack.
Worse, I could then hear propaganda against the very people trying to avenge their victims and fall prey to ignorance, lies or misinformation. I could also believe they brought it down upon themselves via the government they elected but that wouldn’t necessarily make any of that true nor justify the violence against ordinary people irrespective of their nationality, religion, race.
That’s what’s happening with India here I believe. People know that these events happened as they were obviously reported when they were big enough, and yet they can fall prey to propaganda or misinformation or whatever it is that you may wanna call it.
There’s this absolutely absurd and ridiculous notion that’s being peddled that makes it seem like if we, as a bigger nation attack a smaller nation than we obviously are evil or tyrants or support fascism or dictatorship or whatever it is that these people think of.
But in what world does this flawed replica of a thought even make sense?
Must a bigger nation endure the deaths of its countless innocent civilians, innumerable brave soldiers just to appease a bunch of people who make noise but make no sense? All because the criminals happen to be from a smaller nation, one which was also a part of us not too long ago?
Forgiveness is a virtue but spinelessness and cowardice are not. Anything in excess, even forgiveness is unacceptable.
That’s simply why we have now started responding and are wholly prepared to see that nation crumble before our eyes as they’ve tested us time and again. It’s time we stop being the recipients of their tests and start being the ones who deem the very existence of that nation as a failure.
And as ordinary citizens we are simply enjoying a movie that so openly vocalises our feelings without apology or hesitation.
