Sholay opened to 100% occupancy. It's a myth that it didn't open well. Kinda brave to be comparing a film that "might" hit Gadar 2's 3.5 Cr footfalls to 7 Cr & 15 Cr footfall films.

The only similarity with Sholay is the craze of Amjad Khan being repeated by Akshaye Khanna.

The trend is the same as Kashmir Files on a bigger scale.

First 3 days film didn't opened well, it was average response. Due to which Ramesh Sippy, Salim-Javed & Amitabh Bachchan, all discussed that they will reshoot that sequence where Amitabh dies & will show him alive somehow, as they though ppl have not liked Amitabh's character which dies in film. This they discussed on Friday, thought to shoot on Saturday & then release it on Sunday to see result on Monday. But then Sippy decided to wait till monday.

Slowly Slowly the actuall WOM of film started flowing & by monday it gained momentum. This was shared by Amitabh Bachchan on KBC.

I know an article came on BOI as how Sholay opened 100%, but it wasn't on day 1.

Gadar 2's 3.5 Cr footfalls will be beaten for sure as Mass centres are also performing better, while 7 & 15 cr footfalls are out of question.

If Sholay had released today, it might have got similar 3-4 cr footfalls, earlier the only source of entrtainment was cinema, so ppl do watch those films on repeat. Now we have various source of entertainment, so footfalls are less.

Har film ke plus minus hote hai, Sholay Masterpiece zaroor hai but woh bhi heavilly copied hai western films se, lots of references.

Today's biggest grosser ko Hindi films ki biggest grosser se compare nahi karenge toh kya Jhaant jaise Jaat se karenge? Khud ko itne bhi fanney khaan na samjha karo ke jaise tumhe hi bas sense hi films ki.

Pehle Sunny deol ki filmography se bahar aa ja, aur bhi duniya padi hai bahar.

Kashmir Files se compare karo...same trend-higher scale. KF fell in Week 3, same will be the case here. Today will be 20 Cr going by that trend and 18 on Friday. Won't get to Gadar/Jawans footfalls. I'm sure the movie is great but Sholay...C'mon dude! You know the numbers very well.

Sholay didn't have a Pan India release. Films back then used to have territorial releases, usually releasing in the Mumbai territory first and Yes Sippy got nervous because the two biggest Mumbai media houses of that time gave it terrible reviews.

HAHK also had a slow start because it was initially a limited release, releasing on less than 100 prints. It was Rajshri's release strategy for whatever reason.
