I don't understand how anyone believes that anyone overshadowed Ranveer in Dhurandhar

You can feel the helplessness of not being able to achieve anything in one year, he is having a good meal which was handed over by a political entity because he didn't have enough money

I might watch it again on weekend

Hope they don't push part 2

That scene just makes me want to hug him….so glad he found Yalina who he can call his own and hope he doesn’t ditch the poor girl…

Honestly had to stop myself from gushing over them 😭 because this isn't going to end well

Also his cheeky smile when he restarts his bike after walking her to her home….smiley43

Never seen Ranveer in an out and out romantic avatar….Lootera was the closest but there also it’s only a few scenes…How I wish he picks up one before he gets too old….

What if it’s the other way around though?

People presume Yalina will be devastated because she will feel betrayed by the truth that the man she married is actually a spy and faked his identity all along. But we are yet to see Yalina’s own ideology.

Arjun’s character Iqbal mentions Zia Ul Haq and his bleed India with a thousand cuts quote, another fact about that man aka Zia is he radicalised the Pakistani education system in 1971 and it has been so and has even become worse and more progressively problematic and Hinduphobic with extremist ideas normalised in them going forward.

Yalina is 19 per 2009 timeline, when she marries a nearly 30/32 year old Jaskirat masquerading as Hamza. His age is never mentioned but this is a guess by her dad. So she was definitely born after the curriculum was radicalised and made anti-India and anti-Hindu. She lives in Lyari, a part of Karachi, a city predominated by Hindus and to some extent Sikhs and Jains for centuries until invaders came in and forced their own religion on the natives at sword point or lured them with the idea of multiple wives or when it came to women, simply tortured them and forced them to spawn babies that grew up hating their own maternal lineage.

Yalina might not be as disgusted or angry at Hamza for being a spy as she might be if she learns she’s been married to a Hindu/Sikh all along and even had his kid/s. Even though those kids would’ve had no ideas or even any association with their paternal roots and identity including their very names.

That chance is always there, isn’t it? She can double cross him or may be for all we know she already may have started and on a lamba plan like Hamza…Like we discussed yesterday, this relationship isn’t going anywhere unless they both have a brain surgery and move into another planet or something….Only thing is, is the director having any plans for her at all…Otherwise like you were saying yesterday, she will just be a plot device and doomed to die this way or that way….

Her character has to have some purpose in this verse beyond being just the eye-candy romantic leading lady of the hero whose appearance means it’s time for a romantic song. So I expect something but I don’t know what Aditya Dhar has in mind.

It would truly be a shocker and an absolute paradigm shift that flips the narrative around if Yalina is shown as a radicalised woman too. People assume that she’s innocent and will be heartbroken because she’s so young, there are those who say she was groomed into this relationship though she was an adult when they met and Hamza’s age isn’t really known. He is definitely older than her but he didn’t groom her like some creepy pervert old enough to be her grandfather.

So it can be a shocker if she ends up being shown as absolutely disgusted and enraged by Hamza’s true identity being revealed as an Indian Sikh/Hindu rather than just the fact that he’s a spy.

It will be uncomfortable for people to swallow this behaviour and that’s why I think it’s a huge possibility as it subverts the typical expectation of us as viewers. And so far if Dhurandhar has done anything, it’s subverting the usual expectations and tropes associated with Bollywood and spy based movies we have seen especially recently.

Hamza is not your typical Bollywood spy flaunting his 6/8 pack abs dancing on an exotic beach with a bikini clad enemy agent who just so happens to be his love interest too and is a girl with a heart of gold who wants Aman ki Asha. So it would be very much in line if Yalina isn’t your typical Rubina or Zoya or whoever else you can think of, so she has to flip the script and hate India and everything associated with our country if Dhar wants to be realistic and keep it raw.

It will also reveal an interesting and uncomfortable reality that many people miss and ignore; women can be as radicalised as men, even if they don’t end up doing as many violent acts as them owing to basic physical limitations of their bodies. Their minds aren’t limited by that parameter though.

Remember in that scene where Hamza and Uzair barge into the secret HQ of Lyari Task Force headed by Dutt, they do so by hiding behind a guy donning a burqa. Then 3 of them appear and siege the place.

Aditya has already used women in burqa being a threat trope but he made sure it was not a real woman underneath there. So if he shows Yalina’s true ideology as something that is in line with a typical Pakistani, it will be something that will hit people like a hammer in the face when contrasted by her youth, innocent appearance and the presumption that she’s going to be heartbroken when the truth is out.

It may even make Jaskirat feel like he’s been struck with lightning.

Hamza is complicated

He liked Rahman and protected him and his family but after 26/11 scene, he added Rahman to the list of people he had to eliminate and he recalled that 26/11 scene before killing Rahman

Nothing will come between him and his nation/duty

Yalina is not for him, he is betraying her, she is just means to an end so far

Watched Dhurandhar yesterday... It is really good movie, I don't remember last time I had such a great experience about Bollywood movies in theater...

Screenplay, direction, acting, music everything was top notch. The story was divided in 8 chapter and it was flowing naturally. The complexity of local gang politics, human emotions, light and subtle romance keep you hooked for entire run. Did not even check my phone even with 3.5 hours movie, rare for mesmiley36..

Ranveer stole the show. I don't agree whoever saying Akshaye Khanna overshadowed him, NO, he DID NOT. No doubt he was amazing but Ranveer was better, he was there almost in every frame and emoted perfectly. Subtle eye stares, that Balochi look, how he blended in the gang was so perfect, at many times you forget this is spy movie and get involved in local Pakinstan gang politics... Truly Amazingsmiley32

PS: Yes, there was lot of violence, where I closed my eyes. I am not into such violence. There was political bias in few scenes but that was quite unimportant part of the movie. It could have been classic cinema if they had stayed away from justifying demonetizationsmiley37

This was really well done.

Once he picks up someone’s watching and discovers who it is, and that she’s checking him out, he totally understands the assignment and is like girl, let me give you the complete show if you like the view smiley36

And who can blame her because damn, he looks so hot here; those luscious locks smiley42 Ranveer really needs to drop his haircare routine because that’s gonna guarantee an addition to his female fanbase smiley36
