You understood the pain of a Bengali... it's shameful that she is showing such filth in national tv after ruining the regional tv..non Bengali audience has grown all the wrong kind of mindset about Bengalis after her portrayal of Bengali households in Jhanak and Ishani..
Entire duration of Jhanak, there was reference to no cultural affinity of the Bengalis, there love for festivities like Durga puja, food and fun...bass toxicity se bhari padi hui thi puri ki puri show...one day I saw a portrait of Rabindranath Thakur on the wall of the hall of previous Bose House set...man hi man bol rahi thi jaldi se utaro uss portrait ko diwaar se...that portrait doesn't deserve to be hanging on to that wall, amid such filth..
Dibya, if you don't think i am rubbing salt on your injuries, that Tagore portrait had caught my attention everytime it appeared in the frame... and it took my thoughts to the many wonderful Bengali stories/novels...
From very old days, Bengali stories had EMA as the central or important theme... Devdass is the most popular case in point... AmarPrem Saheb Bibi Gulam.. many more...
But the beauty of these stories was that it never appeared as cringeEMA.. it was decent, portrayed in a very humane way.. not immoral, lowgrade romance or silly flirting but a serious dedication, pious longing towards the other person...
Affection between otherwise illegit couple was so cleanly portrayed that one could accuse the ema of only anyaay(unjustified towards current marriage) but never adharmic ...
this ema had the support of 'love is the most superior form of dharma' sentiment...
the audience would be compelled to accept that the current spouse is the real baggage and must voluntarily excuse him/herself out of the marriage to even remain dignified..
the most religiously inclined audience wouldn't be offended when the current marriage is dissolved to make way for the 'correct' couple ...
Such character building is the only way to make EMA acceptable.. both women or both men are never given equal status..
So when i learnt Jhanak is from a Bengali PH, I felt ok to subscribe for the ema centric story... And to be fare, at no part of the complete s1 i got the unclean adharmic ugly disrespectful embarrassing type ema vibe that i would run away from.. Hands down the credit goes to KA... for me HN fell short in many scenes ( i don't mean she gave the cringe ema vibe but her emoting/body language left me asking for better).
Anirudh Bose had shifted being J/Arshi husband with fullscale husband rights/duties so many times in s1.. but KA would enact AB/J as couple parts so distinctly from AB/Arshi as couple that AB/J had gained my full unreserved sympathy... i never had to deal with the cheapness of ek-ladka-do-ladkiyaan..
i won't award the same sympathy to counterpart Imlie character which is the parent-story of Jhanak...
And Yogi is a good director.. he knew how long a touch, a stare should last in a given context to create the right impact. i can't say the same of Imlie.. And i can't definitely say this for Bindi director... Bindi is like watching discontiguous frames of a video ... like watching highlights of a test match... when how a character entered a shot and how it left the scene is all executed like the Director is only capturing a few important snapshots...
