A fresh twist has rocked the legacy of the late Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar. His children from his marriage with Karisma Kapoor — Kiaan and Samaira — have now approached the Delhi High Court, demanding their rightful share in their father’s ₹30000 crore estate.

The siblings have leveled serious allegations against their stepmother Priya Sachdev (Sunjay’s third wife), accusing her of forging and manipulating his will. They claim that Priya, along with two associates, deliberately withheld the will for more than seven weeks, only presenting it at a family meeting on July 30, 2025.

In their petition, the children allege: “The purported will allegedly executed by the Plaintiffs’ father is not a legal and valid document, is forged and fabricated and in any event surrounded by suspicious circumstances.” They further revealed that neither the original document nor even a copy of the will has been shown to them.

I'm quite sure that this 'testament' is more than questionable... with enough money at hand, an almost perfect forgery is feasible...it just takes time (and wicked thinking/acting).

During the hearing, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, also raised objections to the will. She told the court, “My son today leaves me with not a roof on my head? I am 80 years old. Today I have nothing. I have written at least 15 emails asking about the will, what are the documents? Not a word has been shared. I have been told that my emails have been compromised. There is something incredibly unholy. ₹10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine.”She further questioned how the entire estate could be transferred to Priya within three months of her marriage to Sunjay, saying her vested interest had been disregarded.“Her vested interest goes into trust. All gone. I am nowhere. Ms Sachdev comes in, within three months of her getting married, everything goes? My son today leaves me with no roof over my head? I am Rani Kapur,” the mother said.“On the issue of the will, what is also important is that there are also assets of Sona Comstar which have been sold. We don't know who sold it. Shares worth ₹500 crore sold to a Singapore entity. My lords none of the documents were shared with me,” she said.

In the ongoing inheritance dispute involving Sunjay Kapur, Priya Sachdev Kapur’s lawyer, Rajiv Nayar, took aim at Karisma Kapoor, telling the court that she had been “nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years" after separating from Kapur. Appearing on behalf of Priya Sachdev Kapur, Nayar urged sympathy for Kapur, who, he noted, “died while playing polo."

Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, contended that the suit is not maintainable. He said the plaintiffs are already beneficiaries under the trust and had received assets worth ₹1,900 crore just days before the case was filed.

While senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani appeared for the two children of Karisma Kapoor, senior advocates Rajiv Nayar and Shyel Trehan appeared for Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar represented Sunjay Kapur’s mother Rani Kapur, while senior advocate Akhil Sibal appeared for the minor son of Priya Kapur and Sunjay Kapur.

Justice Jyoti Singh directed Priya Kapur to file her replies to the plaint and posted the matter for further hearing on October 9.

"Issue notice. Reply in two weeks, rejoinder in a week thereafter. Along with replies, Defendant 1 (Priya) will file a list of all movable and immovable assets known to Defendant 1. Assets to be declared as of June 12. Next date of hearing is October 9," the judge said.

Sunjay Kapur was helping Karisma Kapoor, kids ditch Indian passport for Portuguese citizenship; court documents show

The legal battle over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s 30,000 crore estate has taken a new turn, with new records being submitted in the Delhi High Court that claim that he was in helping his former wife and actor Karisma Kapoor and their kids get Portuguese citizenship.

According to documents which have been submitted in the Court amid the estate feud, Sunjay was helping Karisma and their kids: Samaira and Kiaan, in the process of securing Portuguese citizenship.

According to court documents accessed by News18, Sunjay was in touch with Karisma. WhatsApp chats and documents annexed to the suit filed by Karisma’s children in the Delhi High Court suggest regular and personal discussions between the estranged couple.

As per the records submitted, Sunjay was assisting Karisma and their children in obtaining Portuguese citizenship, with the documents indicating that steps were taken to secure foreign nationality for the family.

In fact, one of the chats cited in the suit, claim that Sunjay once told Karisma that she would have to give up her Indian citizenship to obtain a Portuguese passport, with the message reading, “India does not permit dual citizenship”. The Delhi High Court will now examine these documents as the case progresses.

Bloopers to ‘forged’ will: Sunjay Kapur inheritance battle continues in Delhi HC

The mix of power and family struggle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapoor's will continued on Monday as his and actress Karisma Kapoor's children questioned the authenticity of the purported will before the Delhi High Court, claiming that it was riddled with "bloopers" and the mistakes were "uncharacteristic" of their father.

Samaira, 20, and Kiaan Kapur, 15, have filed a suit against Sunjay Kapur's wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, her son, as well as the late industrialist's mother, Rani Kapur, and Shradha Suri Marwah, who is a purported executor of the will. The children are seeking a share in their late father's assets.

The inheritance battle began just a month after Sona Comstar chairperson Sunjay Kapur's death in London. His mother, Rani Kapur, had in July cited a 2015 will and claimed to be the sole beneficiary of the estate of her late husband company founder Surinder Kapur

Sunjay Kapur inheritance battle hearing | Top points

  • 'Errors in will': Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani submitted before the HC that the address of Sunjay Kapur's daughter is wrongly mentioned in the will, and his son's name is misspelt. "Sunjay Kapoor knows her address. This is an office address of Karisma Kapoor. These kind of bloopers are very uncharacteristic of Mr Kapoor. He had a very good relationship with his children. How can he have written his daughter's address wrong and misspelled his son's name in multiple places in the will," the counsel said.
  • ‘Will is so casual’: Samaira and Kiaan's counsel further said that if Kapur's will was being modified, then there were far more elementary things that needed modification. "This will demeans the late Sunjay Kapur. It is so casual. There were glaring errors in this will," Jethamalani said.
  • Will forged’: During the previous hearing, the children told the HC that it was highly suspicious that a well-educated man like their father would not inform the will's executor that she had been appointed as an executor. Their counsel also said that the will does not mention details of various assets, including crypto assets, jewellery, etc. "This is not a will which Sunjay Kapur had prepared, read or made," Mahesh Jethmalani told the court. He added, “This can only be done by the beneficiary of the will, to prevent any challenges...Only one person was given the benefits. If this will is a forgery, then only one person could have forged it.”
  • ‘Something very secretive’: Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani submitted that the first Word file of the Will, prepared on February 10, 2025, was on one Nitin Sharma's device, LiveLaw reported. He said that it contradicts the logic that Sunjay Kapur, while on a holiday with his son, was modifying a will that was stored on Sharma's device. "We don't know the contents of the document. There is an apparent contradiction in their case. At the bottom of the file, it is stated that 'this file came from another computer and might be blocked. So the source is unclear. Something is very secretive about this will," he added. Jethmalani further said that Kapur's purported will was modified on March 17, and it remains unclear who made the modification, adding that the will was then executed on March 21 and again on March 24.
  • ‘Move from emails to WhatsApp’: The children's counsel said that on a WhatsApp group with Sunjay and Priya Kapur, and Dinesh Agarwal, the will was sent as a PDF and its name was changed twice. "Two wills were being simultaneously prepared of husband and wife. These were not mutual will, so they have to be explained," he added. He submitted that there is no group chat name or phone numbers on Dinesh's phone, and that the document "SK Will" was only seen, not read, LiveLaw reported. "This is an ominously uncertified document. It is surprising they moved from emails to WhatsApp chats. He certifies only the emails and not the WhatsApp chats," Jethmalani said.
  • 'No lawyer drafted the will': Karisma Kapoor's children's counsel described the case as one where almost every possible "suspicious" circumstance is present. He submitted that "no lawyer drafted the will. A layman witness was taken. The contents of the will are so ridiculous".
  • Previous hearing: During the last hearing of the case, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani alleged that Priya Kapur was in a hurry to appropriate Sunjay Kapur's assets soon after his death. She intended to restrict the children's share to 26 per cent and to appropriate the rest to herself. "Therein lies the veneer. This is no benign stepmother. This is Cinderella's stepmother," he said. As per the will, Jethmalani said, Priya Kapur and her minor son have control of nearly 75 per cent share of the trust, while Samaira and Kiaan are left with 26 per cent.
