An official removes the winners' trophy from the presentation area

The aftermath of India, Pakistan Asia Cup Final ---

News reports are saying about the chaotic aftermath of India’s Asia Cup 2025 win.

Here are the latest details about the events that followed---

India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi.

  1. The Indian team declined to receive the Asia Cup trophy (and, in some cases, even their medals) from Mohsin Naqvi, who is both the Pakistani Interior Minister and President of the ACC / Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Presentation was delayed, then cut short.

  2. After the match ended, the presentation ceremony was delayed by over an hour. Eventually, the trophy presentation was never formally completed.

  3. The trophy was removed from the podium.
Before the presentation got underway, an official removed the Asia Cup trophy from the podium, and it was reportedly taken away. The ACC has not offered a public explanation for this removal.

  4. Naqvi did not step down from the dais.
Even though the Indian side refused to accept from him, Naqvi refused to vacate the presentation dais or cede his role in the ceremony.

  5. India’s official stance / protest.
The BCCI has indicated it will lodge a formal protest at the upcoming ICC meeting, seeking that the trophy and medals (which were not delivered) be handed over to the Indian side.

What remains unclear / ambiguous

Why exactly was the trophy removed by an official?

No formal explanation has been issued by the ACC (or any tournament organizers) about why the trophy was pulled from the podium before the ceremony.

Whether the decision to refuse was preplanned.

It is not fully clear whether the Indian team’s refusal was strategized well in advance (i.e. that they had told the ACC or organizers beforehand) or was a spontaneous decision at the moment. Some reports suggest India had signaled earlier that they would not accept the trophy from Naqvi.

Where the trophy is now / who holds it.

Because the trophy was removed and not awarded on stage, it is unclear where it currently is — whether in ACC custody, with Pakistani officials, or in safe storage.

What disciplinary or regulatory recourse might follow.

Whether any sanctions, investigations, or rulings will follow from ICC / ACC over how the ceremony was handled is not yet known.smiley3

Suryakumar Yadav (right) pretends to carry the trophy to the Indian team

I’d say the ACC’s choice to remove the trophy entirely was a provocative move, against the spirit of the game! Do you agree??

Step 6: Mohsin Naqvi, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi booed by the crowd

Step 7: Aminul Islam handed over the medals to Pakistan players

Step 8: Broadcaster Simon Doull informed that India will not be collecting their awards

Here are more stunning happenings after India's win against Pak---

After more than an hour's wait, Doull kicked off the ceremony, with Tilak Varma receiving the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 69 off 53. Kuldeep Yadav and Shivam Dube were also called up for their respective awards after valuable contributions in the win. Kuldeep had taken a four-fer in Pakistan’s 146 all out in 19.1 overs, while Dube had smashed 33 off 21 balls.

Doull then invited the entire Pakistan squad to collect their runners-up medals, followed by a quick chat with Salman.

But just as fans and viewers waited for the Indian team to be called up, Doull abruptly ended the ceremony. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation," he announced.

According to PTI, the Indian team management had earlier asked who would present the winners’ trophy, leaving the ACC scrambling as they realised their own chief was unacceptable to the champions. When Naqvi finally took the dais, he was told the Indian players would not accept the trophy if he attempted to present it and that an official protest would follow. As Naqvi stood waiting, the chaos deepened—an organiser quietly carried the trophy away!!!

IMO, Pak people should be banned from ICC tournaments like Umpire, Match officials, Presenter, etc

If the Asia Cup has to continue with credibility, the first step should be removing Mohsin Naqvi from the chairmanship. What unfolded wasn’t just politics creeping into sport, it was the display of one man’s personal ego overshadowing the spirit of cricket.

By refusing to hand over the trophy simply because the winning side requested not to receive it from him, Naqvi reduced a moment of celebration into a petty controversy. If he truly had self-respect, he would have gracefully accepted the request, stepped aside, and let the focus remain on the players who earned that trophy on the field. Instead, his insistence made the event about himself, not about the champions.

A trophy ceremony is not about administrators or ministers, it’s about honoring the hard work, sweat, and pride of the players. By making it personal, Naqvi only exposed his own small-mindedness and, in the process, undermined the values of sportsmanship that bind cricket lovers across nations.

There is a valid reason for Team India to refuse the Trophy from Naqui!

Mohsin Naqvi is simultaneously ACC chief (Asian Cricket Council) and also Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, and is a Pakistani politician, also Interior Minister. After India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, the presentation ceremony got delayed. India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his political role and his position as a representative of Pakistan.

The ACC / Naqvi insisted on conducting the presentation himself and denied alternative presenters (e.g. asking Emirates Cricket Board vice-chair to hand over instead).

Eventually, with the standoff unresolved, the trophy was withdrawn (i.e. not presented on stage) and Naqvi reportedly walked away with it???!!!!

Had any other country done what India did.. that egoistic presenter won’t have guts to do it..

P.S. That day isn’t far when Pak is snubbed by other countries too for being allowing terrorist organisations to prosper in their soil..
