There are different sources to this one. Some say it's Sage Durvasa though that's less popular compared to the stories which says he was cursed by sages belonging to the lineage of Angira & Bhrigu / some even say it's Matang Muni -- I have seen this in Karmaphal Data, Shani. Sage Durvasa makes more sense because he was the one known for his anger.

I remember reading it was a group of sages or the head of them all who cursed Hanuman. I did read a version with Sage Matanga as well. Whoever cursed Hanuman had a lot of restraint. Hanuman was pretty much a menace and the sages cursed him after a lot of warnings which went unheeded. They did suffer a lot. Hence Sage Durvasa doesn't seem to be the one here. He would have been too angry right from the beginning. Also, having two partial avatars of Lord Shiva meet this way might have been disastrous.

Also, it was Sage Durvasa who visited King Rama leading to Lakshmana's departure from the earth. He was undergoing severe penance for a 1000 years (many thousands of years in some versions and 100 years in some versions). If we go by the calculation that the 16000 years of Lord Rama's rule were actually 16000 days, sage Duvasa would.have been meditating all this time...

I don't remember reading Rama meeting sage Durvasa during his exile ... Even while he visited Sage Atri, I think the trio saw Devi Anusuya and Dattatreya but not Rishi Durvasa.

Just my opinion and thoughts... Could be wrong...

@b: yes this one I know. Lakshmana fearing the sage's anger for the whole Ayodhya, announced his arrival to Ram but he had also promised Rama that no one would interrupt his meeting with Yama, who was in disguise. Then Rama ordered Lakshmana to renounce his life .. in some versions it is said that he ordered Lakshmana to behead himself since that's what Lakshmana promised.

I don't think Ram ever met Sage Durvasa until after Sita's death. They only met Sage Atri, his wife Devi Anusuya and Sage Valmiki during their time in Chitrakoot.

@b: this makes sense. Durvasa wouldn't tolerate Hanuman's shararat even a little. He would have cursed for less. And it's true that two partial avatars of Shiva would never meet like this. Probably a reason why Hanuman and Ashwatthama never met.
