The duties, which are 16 percentage points higher than China, 31 points higher than most south-east Asian countries and 35 points above South Korea, have pushed US tariffs on Indian goods to levels that the investment house Nomura likened to a “trade embargo”.
Where will the biggest impact be felt?
India’s giant generic pharmaceuticals sector and its electronics and petroleum products are exempt from the tariffs. Aluminium, steel and copper remain at 25%, but job-heavy sectors such as textiles, jewellery, seafood and leather are squarely in the line of fire.
Exports from affected sectors could plunge 70%, from $60.2bn to $18.6bn, while overall shipments to the US could fall by 43%, said Ajay Srivastava, a former Indian trade official and founder of the Global Trade Research Initiative, a Delhi-based thinktank .

It is an opportunity to diversify, we can't be dependent on a nation that we lose our industry in case they turn hostile
Our industries have to look for buyers in India and outside of it
Even if a trade agreement is made, Trump is not trustworthy, they are using tariffs as a tool to threaten sovereignty of nations
Trump wants nobel peace prize i think. He wants some leaders to praise him and say that he stopped wars. If they don't do that, he doesn't like to do trade with them.

Trump also got record share of Indian American vote. Edison, New Jersey, Counties in California and Texas with high Indian population swung heavily towards Trump.
Lol 😆 It never fails to make me laugh how Asian and Hispanic immigrants think siding with white nationalists is somehow gonna make them acceptable in the eyes of latter.
Trump ran the most xenophobic campaign and won the immigrant vote Biden swept by 28 points.
And speaking of India. BJP and the right wing were carrying Trump’s water. Prime Minister Modi shouldn't have done that rally with President Trump in 2020 and this, "Ab ki bar Trump Sarkar" was unprofessional and beneath the dignity of an Indian Prime Minister. Huge failure of Indian leadership vis-à-vis Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well.
That's incorrect
He didn't use that slogan as a slogan, that slogan was a part of official US release and Modi mentioned that an Indian slogan is being used in American election
What Modi should have or shouldn't have done, none predicted Trump doing this to ally of USA, he is after EU, Australia, Canada....practically every nation which had somewhat tilt towards USA
He is nice to every vessel of China, this is beyond diplomacy and serving interests of a few
Either he is stupid, or thinks the audience hearing this is dumb. He is making himself a laughing stock.

He is clutching at thin air to justify Trump’s tariff impositions as fair play—an immature decision lacking both vision and direction.
Attempts to frame Trump’s tariff impositions as fair or strategic amount to little more than grasping at straws. The policy reflects an impulsive approach—immature in conception and devoid of long-term vision or coherent direction.

Well yes it will hurt India in the short term, but just like water finds its path, India too will adapt, diversify, and chart new trade routes. Temporary shocks cannot derail a nation of 1.4 billion people with resilience and ingenuity at its core. What it does highlight, however, is that relying too heavily on the U.S. is risky - because Washington doesn’t seek true partners, it seeks submission.
India must therefore strengthen ties with those who respect its sovereignty, while continuing to stand firm on decisions driven by national interest.
Bold: 100% correct.

How an authoritarian leader like him seeks to grab the Nobel Peace Prize is beyond comprehension!! That’s like a pyromaniac applying for a firefighter’s medal.
I'm kind of glad it happened. It gives India an opportunity to look for other options and opportunities and build effectively towards them.
Every problem is an opportunity for the right minded. India will diversify and adapt. That's what it has always done . I've full faith in my government. Any set back will be temporary .

It's Trump, not the US. It's so funny that before the US elections, so many Indians including Modi and BJP were openly supporting Trump over Biden.
Our pm went to USA asked Americans to vote for Donald Trump. This means foreign policy of present govt is utter failure. USA has neither permanent friends nor enemies. USA work on self interest historically.
It's Indian govt foreign policy failure while dealing with USA. The cost will be paid by normal citizens like us who will bear unemployment and inflation
