Cool, let’s start with The Otherwhere Post, and after that Her Many Faces. Let’s first complete two books for the challenge and then we’ll see 👍

Okay I got the book! It's 417 pages (ebook version) and 42 chapters. So around 10 pgs per chapter.

How do you wanna do this? Should we read 3-4 chapters a day and discuss? Or we can both go at our own pace and drop in here beech beech mein with our thoughts. Or we can finish the whole book and then discuss together?

Cool!smiley20 I got the book as well.. I have the audiobbook version and it’s 12h 41m long, that’s like 30m per chapter. Okay, let’s log your version’s pages for this book - 417 pages - as it is close to Amazon’s page count (which is 416 pages).

I think both going at our own pace is a better option due to flexibility. We can set a target for 3-4 days and go as per our pace during that time and drop in here to post our thoughts. And we can continue the discussion after finishing it as well. Let me know what works for you smiley9

Also, please update the names of the books chosen in your first post ❤️

Yeah, I was hoping you'd say that. Going at our own pace def sounds better to me bcz I usually read in bursts 😅 so let's read our own way and drop in here from time to time with comments, that'll be a perfect buddy read 😌❤️

Ok, I finally got started with the book! Read chapters 1-6... it was a slow start for sure, but ch5 has her finally in the building, and ch6 has me curious about Tristan's past (I'm sure he effed up big in the last year) and also about their upcoming conversation smiley36

I will probably pick it up again in the evening, unless I have a change of mood 🙈

I have read only the first three chapters so far. To be honest, I don’t like the writing, it feels inconsistent - like for example, Maeve has smile on her lips reading the letter her mother wrote and later it is written she hates the letter because of her father. There should have been mixed feelings/expressions right at the start but one doesn’t get a clue about it until later. Also I don’t think lying about her identity was necessary, because it was her father’s crime, not her. Regardless, so far the plot is holding my attention. Let’s see how it goes.

Yeah, the writing style is not my favourite so far, there were multiple instances where my attention was waning. But I'm curious to know more about this world and scriptomancy.

And I agree, Maeve's actions feel a bit excessive, and the constant paranoia that someone will recognise her. I can understand the associated stigma that will fall on her if she's recognised, but still. I feel like it's just a plot point introduced to add drama and tension smiley36

I'm hoping the plot picks up from here bcz I just wanna learn more about the world and get investigating! smiley36

(Read till ch 12)

Now I understand why Maeve was so desperate to keep her identity hidden. I still don't really care about her as an MC, even if I understand her better now. I think it's something about the writing style. The pacing is also slower than I'd hoped for. I'm 33% through and so far nothing has really happened except a mildly threatening letter. Considering it's a fantasy standalone, I expected things to move along much faster. The worldbuilding still interests me — or rather, the scriptomancy does. I'm not sure there's much more to this world than that. But I'm interested to learn more about the scriptomancy methods. I want some more detailed classes smiley36

I'm enjoying the Tristan-Maeve scenes. So far I definitely like him more as a character. Maeve is strangely hard for me to connect to, despite the 1st person POV 😅

P.S. I'm mentioning the chapter numbers on top so you can avoid spoilers if you haven't reached there yet. I can also just keep dropping comments without tagging you, if you'd like 👀

Okayyy I'm 26 chapters in and I'm definitely enjoying the story now smiley27 Actually it picked up from ch 13, right after the point where I finished my last post 😅

I feel more connected to Maeve now, and I also like her better as a character atp. Although this will always be one of those books where I started liking the side characters before the MC smiley36

I'm curious to see who the guilty one turns out to be. Maeve is so strongly convinced it's the that I'm strongly convinced it's not him smiley36 I have a few theories in mind, let's see how it plays out.

I'm also curious whether Tristan got his keys back after all. Chances are he gave up on them when he found out Maeve was gone. Maeve was so careless to just leave them behind like that smiley44whoever got them has complete access to that library now, and everything seems to be in that library smiley24

Also, for someone who's spent her entire life lying and fleeing and looking over her back, this girl surely spends too much time falling and getting hurt 😐
